TurboTax 2024 Windows Import from Schwab is Broken

Spent an hour on the phone with Intuit support without an answer.  1099s are all available and I have downloaded the pdf files.  I have done this for the past many years without problem.

When I do Import in TurboTax 2024 I get this sequence:

* Logging Into Schwab in browser tab

* Schwab says making available list of accounts

* Intuit URL says importing from Schwab accounts

* Intuit URL give green check mark that all info has been downloaded

* Returning to Turbotax:  no new screen, no acknowledgement of download, no 1099s in list of form, nothing in the Income summary for those accounts.

==> the mechanism between Schwab and Intuit is broken ... NEEDS FIXING

If you are using TurboTax Online, try importing using a different browser.

See the following TurboTax Help articles for potential fixes:

I am having same issue and worked with phone support three times. twice they accessed session remotely and could not get it to work. Each time final screen from Schwab states import successful and to return to TurboTax to find nothing. Last support specialist had me remove software and reinstall still no joy.  Both calls attempted three times to export and everything appears to work but nothing populates in TurboTax.

I have an account at Merrill which imported without issue.

How do I resolve?   I am using desktop version.

Resolved.

My default browser is Brave which i like because a lot of builtin security.  which stopped the downloads.  Changed default browser to Edge and download worked fine.  I suspect actual Chrome browser would also work but some other firewalls, security watchdogs etc. may stop it.

I am using TurboTax premier on Windows 10 desktop and am having a very similar problem.  I two Schwab brokerage accounts and two Schwab Bank accounts.  I have granted 3rd party access to all 4 accounts, but a single 1099-DIV and 1099-INT only download for my primary brokerage account.  I have chatted with Schwab about this and they says everything is good on their end.  My default browser is Chrome and I have also tried switching the default to Edge, but got the same result.

Something on the TurboTax side is definitely broken.

Update on my problem.  Apparently TurboTax does not support upload of Schwab Bank accounts, but that still does not explain the issue with it not downloading my second Schwab brokerage account.

I'm having the SAME issue! Very frustrating. Using TurboTax desktop on Windows, using Chrome browser.

I had the same issue with TurboTax desktop on Windows 11, using Brave.

I tagged off another commenter's solution using Edge for the import.

I temporarily made Firefox my default browser and the Schwab data imported successfully.

I tried using Firefox.  All accounts still don't download for me.

That's bound to be frustrating.

Check to be sure your browsers are up to date.

You might try turning off the tracker protection in Firefox or creating temporary exceptions for Schwab and Intuit (Settings > Privacy & Security > Browser Privacy > Manage Exceptions)?

If you're using Brave, try turning off Brave Shields (found this tip in older posts about this issue).

I don't use Edge or Chrome, but you could try something similar with those.

Otherwise, I would think maybe antivirus/firewall or VPN interference might be possibilities.

I hope the browser solutions work. Don't forget to restore your privacy settings when you're done.

Just confirming it worked for everyone just a few days later?  It was basically available to download the PDF a day or two before it would connect to TT to import data.  Right?

My fix may not apply, BUT

I had the same issue about not being able to import from my financial institution. Turned off (McAfee) VPN and it worked.

Same problem here but with Wells Fargo.  Using TT Premier desktop & edge browser.  Have talked several times to Intuit & to Wells Fargo.  No luck with either one.  There seems to be no way to get to someone in Technical Support.  I have used TT for over ten years & never had problem like this.  I bought TT because I DON"T want to manually input my data!!!

I imported my friend's Wells Fargo fine.  She has 2 broker accounts and a 1099R.  Are you picking the right Wells Fargo?  Wells Fargo Advisors?

I have tried both Wells Fargo selections using my Wells Fargo login and my Husband's.  When I tried Wells Fargo Advisors I got an error message saying "Our system is currently unavailable. Please try again later or contact  us at 1-877-879-2495  Option 2. "  I called that number & asked to speak to tech support.  I explained the problem after several minutes of conversation, the person I spoke with said it was a Turbo Tax issue 800-446-8848.  When I called WFA, they said it was a TTax issue.  Called my broker.  He checked with their Tax Center. WF Tax Center couldn't help me other than to make sure that TTax was requesting 1099 from "Wells Fargo Wells Fargo Clearing Services, LLC.  How do I do that?  I tried Wells Fargo selection & received an email from WF that "data sharing enabled" Your accounts are now connected." This was on 2\26\2025.  However, when I try to import from this selection, I get an error message "Something unexpected happened & we can't connect to Wells Fargo."  After several more calls with no resolution, fast forward to today, I started a new return.  Other than our personal info populated from last year's return,  I tried again using WFA then Wells Fargo selections & received the same error messages.

Read this in another post and it might be worth a try.  If you are using a VPN then disconnect and see if the download will occur.

I disconnected my VPN & tried to import again.  Didn't work.

you may have linked your accounts at Schwab so both are viewable as one but that may be the issue. each account has its own password for the 1099.   try using the account ID and password for that account to complete your download of the additional 1099.

Changed my default browser from Brave to Chrome and Schwab import worked for me.

Nope. I tried EVERY browsers with all blockers etc turned off. A single sales form from Schwab imports. NO 1099-INT, DIV or anything else. Pathetic.

Make sure your transactions aren't going over the TurboTax limits:

  • Both TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop are able to support up to 10,000 of any combination of transactions and imports.
  • TurboTax Online can support up to 4,000 non-covered transactions (items such as options or cryptocurrency that aren't reported to the IRS).
  • The import file size is limited to 4MB.

If your transaction numbers are getting close to these limits, it can cause the system to lag or time out. If this happens, you may need to clear your return and start over. Then try entering the sales section totals into TurboTax, rather than entering individual sales. If you still encounter issues, you may need to switch to TurboTax Desktop to continue your return.

Here are some troubleshooting tips for importing:

  • Sign in to your brokerage account and confirm you have enabled third-party access to your account information.
  • Change your password for your online brokerage account, then sign back in to TurboTax and start the import process again using your new password.
  • Double-check that you're entering the right credentials on the import screen. Depending on your institution, you could be asked to enter any combination of username and password, fund number, account number, or document ID number.
  • Check with your brokerage to see if you need to be enrolled in online access in order to import.
  • If you're using TurboTax Desktop, make sure your program is up to date.
  • When signing in to your brokerage account from TurboTax, try entering two extra characters at the end of the password, then delete the extra characters and press enter.

You can also try Troubleshoot TurboTax Desktop for Windows issues.

If you cannot import, you can always enter your Forms 1099 manually.

This bug seems to be specific to the Brave browser.  I was also able to get Schwab import to work after changing my default browser from Brave to Chrome.

This is very broken using Chrome.   For example it says my 1099-DIV is zero after import, and it forces me to click review and then it tries to import the data again.  The problem is that it is duplicating that data and the last two times I tried it, it has alternated between showing the correct amount from the DIV to zero, and it shows zero even with a form in the back being correct.
