Purchased Turbo TAX 2024 for my M1 Mac Mini.
Installed on OS 15.1 on Nov release and it was up and running. (accepted import of prior years data)
Installed OS15.2 late Dec and it will now not open.
(It does check for Turbo Tax updates but never gives an opportunity to start or continue a return.)
There then is a Mac/apple error pop up "TurboTax 2024 quit unexpectedly" that gets sent to Apple.
Called Quicken Help desk and reviewed settings etc with no change in result.
Looking for a resolution
More info.... Reopening TurboTax 2023 on OS15.2 DOES work (updates and everything from last year)
The problem remains that the 2024 Turbotax product will NOT open in OS15.2
Here is a couple FAQs that might be helpful for MAC:
Troubleshooting TurboTax for Mac Desktop installation and updating issues
Thanks for the response.... but unfortunately for me no bueno.
I have followed the FAQ and walked through it live with a Turbotax phone support.
The OS 15.2 is still generating a crash report that goes to Apple.
The "opps" feedback pop up generated by Turbotax was filled out and sent back to Turbotax.
If you have taken all of the steps in the troubleshooting tips, you can try uninstalling, then reinstalling TurboTax.
After you uninstall, you can clear your cache and cookies (in Safari ) and then reinstall TurboTax.
If that does not work, then you would need to call TurboTax Support again and ask them to do a screenshare so they can see the error you are getting.
I was never able to get TT to install at all on my Mac with 15.2 ... it worked on my wife's with 14.5
Like you, all my old TT years work and update just fine.
Neither support nor I can figure it out, but something with 2024 and my machine or 15.2 is buggy.
Yes agreed this must be a problem between TurboTax and Apple.
Reloaded the software 3 times following the 7 step process provided by TurboTax support.
All failed
Of course, loading a program coded for Mac Intel, translated by Rosetta, to an updated OS version for Apple silicon creates an opportunity for lots of issues. I just had higher expectations for a seamless tax season.
I had a similar problem (macOS 15.2 on an M1 MacBook Pro) and had a long call with TurboTax support. It would launch, check for updates, and get to the "No tax form updates" dialog without an issue. Once I clicked OK in that window, I would get the spinning beachball for a few seconds and then it would crash with no messages (no option to report to Apple as you usually see).
In any case, we went through a bunch of things and I finally thought to remove the tax file I had started so it wouldn't be able to open it (I actually just compressed it and deleted the original). I was then able to launch TurboTax as usual and an empty tax file opened.
So, I thought there may have been something wrong with the file. To test that theory, I put the original file back and launched the application again but it continued to work. Not sure what the issue was, but it is certainly worth trying that approach. I'd be interested to know if it works for others as I'm a little concerned the issue will reoccur.
I was finally able to activate after creating a fresh user on my Mac and installing from that user.
Thanks, This seems to work.
Was able to load prior year data, save it, and reopen under my new alternate user.
As documents roll in will try to use this method unless TurboTax comes up with a solution to the original issue.
However. Still getting the pop up in Turbotax that says something is wrong (asks for detail and then submits to Turbotax.)
I have the exact same issue you described with TurboTax 2024 Premier on Mac Desktops. Happens on two different Macs (M3 Macbook, M1 Mac Mini) both running 15.2. Right after checking for updates and getting the message "No new Forms to update" the TT shuts down (quits or crashes) and does not allow you to open any files. Intuit support said they were sorry, they don't have a fix and I need to call Consumer Resolutions. They hinted that my software key might be the issue, I bought TT at Costco.
Got mine to work.
I noticed mine would intermittently quit after the "You're up-to-date" message. Didn't fail every time. My 2024 TT file was saved on a Mac in the Documents folder which happens to also be on iCloud. I move the file to a different folder and TT launched completely without quitting. This could be a timing issue for files saved on iCloud, not sure but iCloud caches files locally before they are saved to the Cloud. Perhaps the state of the file makes a difference to TT when trying to launch the App? Just guessing, but moving the file allowed TT to launch. Some of you reinstalled TT under a new User and that would also provide a new file as opposed to opening an existing one. Some of you renamed or compressed the file and that also would cause TT to open a new file. Bottom line, if TT can't find the last file you worked on in place it was last saved, then it launches OK to a new blank file. Then you can open your saved file OK.
Or 15.3
I get this message:
An error occurred while relaunching TurboTax 2024, but the new version will be available next time you run TurboTax 2024.
Pretty goofy message. I've launched it half a dozen times over the last couple of days and keep getting the same message.
What gives Intuit?
See this help article for troubleshooting steps for Mac issues.
If you have all of the minimum system requirements, you might also try clearing your cache and cookies. If after trying all of the options mentioned you still have the same problem:
See this help article for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.
I just spoke with Technical Support and they said the new version requires OS 13.0 or higher. So the 2024 version will not work on my MacBook. I was told to return the product (or they will process a refund). To me, this is crazy and they will be having many issues this year. I was also told that I could use the Online version, but you can only do I return per user and the results of the return are not visible until the end when you pay...WHAT? Good grief!!!
Thank you, RangiKeen! Your solution was just what I needed to do.
I'm on a newer computer than I used for TT Online last year; Mac M4 Pro running v15.3. After logging in to begin my 2024 return, TT recognized me, but when it tried to populate my prior return a page appeared with "Oops, something has gone wrong. Please try again." After fruitless repeated attempted over the course of days, I gave up and called TT support. The woman who tried to help me for almost two hours was great (truly was trying to help me), but she couldn't figure out what was "blocking" TT from loading my data. I was about to resort to using TT Desktop, but found your post and thought it makes sense that Apple's newer OS isn't working with TT. (Someone needs to fix that.... Apple or TT.)
As you recommended, I moved my old TT files to a different location on my laptop, opened TT and it let me right into "Personal Taxes." Then I moved my tax files back, clicked on "Documents" in TT and all my past years were there. I started my new tax return and all the data from 2023 populated.
I've since completed my return (have not filed yet) and all worked perfectly, just as it has in prior years. Big thumbs up to you for solving my TT problem! Thank you and to everyone who contributed to this post.
I have spent close to six hours on the phone and shared screen with ITT support and have not been able to install Turbo Tax 2024, which I purchased from Sam’s Club. The download never provides a place to insert the activation key code. I have worked with ITT for years and have never had this problem. I am working on a Mac, which is up to date. Any suggestions.
The only thing that worked for me in the same situation was to add a new user onto my Mac and use that user to install TurboTax. If you've used for previous years, you'll probably have to copy over your old tax file to the new user so it will find it to import your old data.
I haven't completed my taxes, but this at least let me activate it.
