TT home business 2020 mac erased all my data after update

I finished my taxes last month and since then I upgraded my Mac to Big Sur.  My tax file is on an external drive. Today I opened TT and it needed an update so I did it and when it was finished I had to locate it on my ext drive but the file was greyed out.  I went to my finder and clicked on the file and it opened but all my data I entered was erased.  The only thing remaining is the transferring of last years return.  I don't have a copy of this file and when I closed the return (today) I did not save it and clicked restore, which it did not.  I haven't been able to see a fix since TT has written over my file.  Is there something in user library application support or preferences that I can restore from backups that read my data.  I have taxes due and now I have to redo 2 business taxes in one day.
