The updater simply does nothing when the dialog box is open. It shows 6 minutes, but doesn't update at all and I can't readily access 2018 TurboTax. How do I get the updater to work or simply access the 2018 software to work on the 1040X?
1) First thing to try is to reboot your computer....a waiting W10 update ahs been known to block the update procedure.
2) If that doesn't work, make absolutely sure you are installing and running the software using an Administrator account.
.....TTX should only be installed and run as an Administrator.....not in some guest account without administrator privileges...but it's hard to know each person's exact setup.
But even if you did that already, there is an internal setting that sometimes needs to be implemented also.
So...
1) right click TurboTax 2019 2018 icon
2) Select … Properties
3) Select the Compatibility tab
4) In the "Settings" box … check the box to "Run this program as an administrator"
5) Apply...OK...then restart the program and try again
