You can go back to the Interest section under Income to enter your interest income.

It is fast and easy to enter a Form 1099-INT manually. In TurboTax Desktop:

  1. Open your return
  2. Click the Federal tab or Personal tab in Home and Business
  3. Click "I'll choose what I work on"
  4. Scroll down to Interest and Dividends
  5. Click Start or Update next to Interest on 1099-INT
  6. Click Add interest income
  7. Click the radio button next to I'll type it in myself
  8. Click Continue
  9. Follow the prompts and enter the information from your form

In order to add an item of interest income, if you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. Select Wages & Income on the left side menu
  2. From the list of income types, select Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto) - there will be a button at the right labeled either Start or Add/Edit
  3. To add a Form 1099-INT for interest income, click Add Investments
  4. To enter manually instead of importing, click "Add a different way"
  5. Several types of investment income appear. Click on Interest and Continue
  6. Click the button, "Type it in myself" if you wish to enter it manually.

Unable to enter U.S. Treasury interest because 'enter financial instution" does not exist for T-Bills

Need to omit state tax

Typically, interest from corporate bonds will be in Box 1, interest from U.S. Treasuries will be in Box 3, and tax-exempt interest from muni bonds will be in Box 8.

There is a My form has info in other boxes  check box at the bottom of the Federal Entry screen of the 1099-INT form.

  • If you check the Box a list of Less common items will come up.
  • This allows entries into the State return as well as other information.

To enter your IRS interest form in TurboTax Online:

  1. Type 1099-int in the search box and click search.
  2. Click on Jump to 1099-int.
  3. On the landing screen, click on I'll type it in myself.
  4. Enter your interest form and continue.
  5. Enter the Institution Name.
  6. Enter your interest in Box 1 and any other information.

If you bring up the page that has several icons for different investment interest types, click on the one that says Interest.

I'm using desktop, not web, and when I click on the button to enter interest income, it takes me to dividend income. No way to enter or edit my interest income

When I click on Update in the Interest income box in the 2024 Income Summary page, it loads the page with the title, "Let's finish pulling in your investment income". When I scroll down and click on Confirm, the page loads showing capital losses so far. Clicking on the Next button, sends display back to 2024 Income Summary page where I started. This happened multiple times, and I was not able to enter interest income.

Is this a bug in the program? If so, is there a work-around?

In TurboTax Online, instead of clicking "Confirm", if you need to edit or add Interest Income, click on "Add " to add a new item or click on the down arrow next to an already-entered item to edit it. See screenshot below:

I encountered the same problem on the desktop version.  The workaround I found was to:  (1) click on the "+ Add Investments" button;  (2)  on the "Let Us Enter Your Bank and Brokerage Tax Documents" page, click on "Skip Import";  and then (3)  on the "OK, let's start with on investment type page," clink on the "Interest" button and then "Continue".

Repeat this process for each separate interest income source/amount that you have.

Good luck!
