Student Exemption to FICA

I am a full-time undergraduate student. I work part-time on campus and qualify for the student exemption to FICA. However, TurboTax is calculationing self-employment tax. How do I adjust this in TurboTax?

Your W-2 should have zero in box 3.  If there is a number in box 3, have the school issue a corrected W-2.

Thanks for your response. Box 3 on my W-2 is empty. However, TurboTax seems to think I owe FICA and is calculating self-employment tax and including it in my tax liability.

You have something entered incorrectly somewhere. We can't see your return. Do you have self-employment income as well as this W2? I would verify you don't have anything entered as self employment income if you don't have this. Additionally, review your entries for your W2 and make sure everything is entered exactly as it is listed on your W2.

Your W2, if entered correctly even without an amount in box 3, will not trigger self-employment tax. Something other than your W2 is causing self employment to be included.
