State says im not eligible to efile because returns that do not have an ssn or ein for each dependent care provider are not eligible for electronic filing

Go back to the Dependent Care Credit section in the federal portion and make sure you have either the SSN or EIN for each care provider you have listed on your return.   You can e-file your federal return without it, but you won't get the credit if you do not provide that information.    There will be an option to choose one of those formats, SSN (xxx-xx-xxxx) or an EIN (xx-xxxxxxx).

The last requirement to take the credit is:

  • You must furnish the care provider's name, address, and (unless it's a tax-exempt organization) their SSN, ITIN, or EIN on your return.

To edit these forms, you have to go back to the federal section.   How do I get to the Dependent Care Credit section?   If you update the information, you will ensure you get your full credit on your federal return and are able to e-file your state return.

I am having the same error. I did not have any dependent care providers or receive any credit for dependent care.

Same problem here - no dependents listed on either federal forms or state forms.  Turbotax program error.

Hope they fix it soon

Please try to delete this form to resolve the error.  To do this, follow the instructions below:

To resolve:

  1. While signed in to your return, search for child care credit (use this exact term) using Search or Help in the upper right corner and then click the "Jump to" link in your search results.
  2. At the Did you pay for child or dependent care in 2017? screen, answer Yes. (Even though it doesn't make sense.)
  3. Continue to the Whose care did you pay for? screen and uncheck all boxes. Click Continue.
  4. In the left main menu bar, click Tax Tools > Tools and then select Delete a Form from the Tools Center pop-up.
  5. Scroll down the list of forms and click Delete next to 2441.
  6. Click Delete Form to confirm. You should see the message Form Successfully Deleted. Click Continue.
  7. Back at the Review Form List screen, scroll down to make sure 2441 no longer appears on the list.

That's kind of helpful, except I am using Turbotax Premier desktop and I cand find a search function to search the forms.  However, I did scross through my forms to find 2441 form and deleted it.  I then deleted my entire KY state return to start over with it having erased the federal 2441.  Didn't help.  Still get the same message that I can't efile KY return due to no SSN or EIN dependent care provider.

This did not work for me.

It sounds like this is what you did but just to be sure. In TurboTax Desktop version, you can click the Forms button, on the upper right and a list of all the forms in the return will appear on the left side. If you click on the form, it will display in the main pane, with a Delete Form button at the bottom. Please delete Form 2441 and then look on the left side and see if it is gone, or if it rebuilds.
To return to the interview mode, click on the Step-by-Step button on the upper right.

If any of the W2s have an amount in Box 10 Dependent Care Benefits, it will trigger Form 2441 to auto-populate and it cannot be   be deleted. Please review your W-2 Forms and be sure there is nothing in Box 10.  It is always a good idea to review W-2s after importing or scanning, or even entering manually, and be sure that everything is in the correct box.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.  Don't know how 2441 ever got in there because there is no, and has never been, anything in box 10 of either of our W2s or in the import into Turbo Tax.

I have deleted 2441 form and it did not rebuild.  I also checked my w2s in turbotax, again, and there is no entry.

I also deleted my state return after deleting 2441 in federal, and ran my state return from scratch.  Still get the error that i can't e-file state due to EIN/SSN and dependent care.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file that is experiencing this behavior.

You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  It is a sanitized file.  If you would like to do this, here are instructions in TurboTax Desktop:

  1. In the Tool Bar at the top, click on Online
  2. Select Send Tax File to Agent
  3. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click Send through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  4. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what is happening in your return and provide you with a resolution.

Are you saying there is a solution through calling technical support?  You have my file with token number so did you find the problem?

This is crazy. I have not entered any dependent care costs and I get the same Fix Error screen. I am also in Kentucky so it has to be something with the Kentucky download update.  Followed advice above and on MacOS version of TT Business, I do not have a delete button to get rid of Form 2441 either. I did manage to highlight the form and use the delete key to remove but still get the same notification of the SSN or EIN for dependent care when I go through analysis. But if I click Done it provides me an option to e-file my state return. I am afraid to try and then have to print it out and mail it in.

Please advise.

I have the same issue as described in the other posts. I had stumbled over the 8812 advance child tax credit  payments received issue and thought they might be related. No kids and not requesting any credits. I don't have a 2441 in my file. Also, no entries in Box 10 of the W2. My token number is: 913255.

Im having the same issue. I deleted the tax form multiple times and it's still saying that I can't efile because of the Child tax care credit which I said 'No' to.

In Premier click on forms. Find the Form 2441K and in the Dependent name mine showed "none". Override and delete that and the error goes away.

I don’t see the form 2441k to try that.
