Software is saying I have to fill out underpayment of estimated taxes for Ohio nonresident when it should be 0 as I didn't make money there last year. AI of no help.

Either I'm an idiot, or it's a bug in the software.

When you answered questions in MY INFO----how did you answer when it asked if you made money in any other state?

I answered yes, because I made money in two states, Georgia (listed correctly as a resident return) and Ohio (listed correctly as a nonresident return). There is no answer to a question I've given that gives any indication I made money or owed taxes to Ohio in 2023. It wants me to fill out  IT/SD 2210. It's stuck in a loop somehow saying I needed to pay taxes in a year that I never worked here.

Why are you mentioning 2023?   You are working on a tax return for 2024.

Exactly my point. Why is the software asking me? I answered all of it's questions correctly.

Similar issue on my end - it asked me if I filed an Ohio return in 2023, which I did. Then it imported an amount from my 2023 OH state return and states I owe $15 in estimated tax. It says page one of the estimated tax form cannot be e-filed and page 2 won’t be ready to e-file until 2/13. But I am not sure if my whole state return is not being filed or what.

1. You need to delete those forms- if you do not owe tax to Ohio based on 2024 income. If you are using:

  • Online: see How do I view and delete forms in TTO?
  •  Desktop: If you are working in the cd/download TurboTax program:
    1. On the top right, there is a FORMS button.
    2. Click on FORMS.
    3. Locate the form you want to delete.
    4. Click on the form name.
    5. Below the form, bottom left, select DELETE FORM button.

2. View your return to see what is there

  • In desktop, switch to Forms Mode.
  • For online:
    1. On the left side, select  Tax Tools
    2. Select Print center
    3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
    4. If you have not paid, select pay now.

I tried that two weeks ago, multiple times and it did the same thing.

Got an email from TT 3 days ago saying forms were available, deleted again, and re-entered the information and it was completely resolved.

There's a question in the Ohio interview that asks if you 'filed an Ohio return last year'.  Check your entry there.

If you earned income in Ohio in 2024, and paid tax, you're correct that you would file a non-resident return.  Here's more info on How to File a Non-Resident State Return

If you're using TurboTax Online, close the program, clear your  Cache and Cookies and return to the Ohio interview.

If you don't owe Ohio tax for 2024, you can delete form IT/SD2210 from your Ohio return.  How to Delete Forms in TurboTax Online.

Or, just delete Ohio and start the interview again from the beginning. Here's How to Delete a State in TurboTax Online.
