So far (3/7/2021) I am unable to import 1099 information from USAA. I put in my USAA logon id and the Tax Form Import Code but I get "Something unexpected happened..."?

I am not sure if this is a TurboTax issue, or a USAA problem, or something else entirely.  Has anyone else been able to import USAA tax information this year?

I AM HAVING HORRIBLE PROBLEMS WITH USAA THIS YEAR ALSO!!! THEY DOUBLED MY LIFE ANNUITY ENTRY BY SENDING 2 1099R'S, AND NOT SENDING 70 1/2 RMD 1099R, AND NO 1099-DIV... EXTREME MISTAKES, AND NO RESOLUTION WITH ANYONE AT USAA... ALL THE WAY UP TO THE OFFICE OF THE CEO!!! THEY DO NOT GIVE  **bleep**... AFTER 56 YEARS WITH USAA!!!

I just saw the following on the USAA web site Tax Center:

Please note: USAA Brokerage, USAA Managed Portfolios and USAA Mutual Fund tax documents will not be available for import to TurboTax through USAA.

I called USAA to verify. They said that National Financial Services LLC prepared the PDFs for 1099-DIV and 1099-INT - but that import of that data into TurboTax would not be available for 2020.

In may case this is a major burden (40 pages of FORM 1099-B to be entered manually!!
I believe USAA is the cause of this burden. My business with them will be reduced accordingly.

USAA first sold off our Money Market funds (Victory) and Brokerage accounts (Schwab), and now they have thrown us under the bus by not providing Turbotax useable data feeds.  You are correct.  They provide a "hard copy" paper copy of our 1099's, which we will have to enter by hand into Turbotax.

USAA made money off this deal and it will cost us money and time to input the information.  I will likely move my remaining USAA accounts elsewhere.  The final straw.

When import does not work, manually enter info.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in 1099b and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1099b
  • Follow prompts
  • On-screen, "Let's import your tax info, select I'll type it myself
  • Follow prompts to continue

Hi,

So the page that says "Let Us Enter Your Bank and Brokerage Tax Documents" and shows the USAA logo on it is false advertising???

I called Victory capital and they walked me through the process. My USAA/Victory capital funds transferred with no issues.

You will need at least one of your mutual funds so you have the account number. Go through the TT drill to import and enter your account number and SS number. The fund is the "USAA /Victory" fund and not the victory fund.

Disregard the first three account numbers. The rest (after the dash) is your account number. Enter your social security number. It should import fine. Works for IRA and any other funds. I did not need to do much anything and it took care of all my MF buys and sells. You do need TT premier. I stupidly bought Delux so it cost another 30 to upgrade- which was painless (the upgrade not being out another $30).

I was like everyone else here and ready to cash everything in but an exceptional lady at VC walked me through the process and it is actually easy- once you know how.

I appreciate the response, but this does not work.  I put in the account number for one of my mutual funds (there is no 'dash' in the account number though, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there) and my SSN and TT doesn't find anything.  Just unreal.  God I hate this company.

Not sure if you did it this way so...

In TT get documents. Find victory capital/usaa (not USAA or victory capital by themselves).

on your mutual fund1099  look for the fund account number. skip the first three numbers. For mine the first three were followed by a dash, so the account number was the numbers after the dash.

Enter your social security number.

That should do it and it should import the fund info, and, with me, all my funds.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the reply, but I do not own USAA mutual funds managed by Find victory capital.  I am a member of USAA Federal Saving Bank.  They are different financial organizations.  USAA Bank is the one prominently displayed on the financial download page, but apparently is not supported.

Thank you,

Johnny

Ar you trying to get the banks  info or mutual fund info? My understanding is all the USAA mutual funds were taken over by Victory Capital - mine were. They are still called USAA funds but are so in name only. So give my suggestion a try- use the USAA/Victory funds as the mutual fund company and see if it works. My bet is that it will. Again, do not use either the USAA or the Victory funds since. alone, they will not work.
