Depends on what you bought.
IF you bought the Desktop/download software....you are supposed to download and install...then use the application installed on your computer. You DO NOT use the "Online" browser-based software when you go this route.
Buying the Desktop/download software does not give you free access to the "Online" software preparation...those two tax software systems are entirely separate, with separate $$ Charges.
BEFORE you pay the online fees ... switch to the download ... you can carry your progress from the online and open it in the downloaded program you purchased so you don't need to start over from scratch.
You appear to be posting from online software instead of the desktop CD/download software that the license code is for. If you are using online, you are using the wrong program. You need to switch to the desktop software to get what you paid for. You have to download it, update it and open it up from your own hard drive to use it.
The desktop version allows you to file 1 federal return for free. There is a $25 charge for your state return.
The downloaded version lets you complete as many fed/state returns as you wish and efile 5 federal returns for free. The state program is included in the program fee however there is a $25 efiling fee for each state you want to efile otherwise you can print, ink sign and mail in the state return.
The online fee charges for the fed and state separately however you can efile them both for free ... you do the math.
If you choose to stay with the online program you can get a refund of the downloaded version within 60 days of purchase directly from TT no questions asked. To submit a refund request online, simply fill out our TurboTax Refund Request Form
