Should I use a form 1040 or 1040 C, if my income is primarily SS, but a small side income?

I think you mean you need to prepare a Schedule C as part of your Form 1040.   Schedule C is used for business expenses.

 

You have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.   You will need to use online Premium software or any version of the CD/download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

Aliens who intend to leave the United States or any of its possessions file form 1040-C

• Report income received or expected to be received for the entire tax year, and
• Pay the expected tax liability on that income, if they are required to do so.
