We are filing jointly in 2023 by mail since electronic filing was not accepted. I got this year my PIN for 2024 filing but my spouse didn't get it. Return filed for 2024 is rejected since my spouse PIN is incorrect or not available (IND-032-04)
I don't receive any tangible solutions from Turbotax support to correct the problem. I feel cheeted paying for a service which doesn't help solving a known problem. Filing by mail is always the last solution but I paid for full service whuch I am not getting!
I need a better support rather a brush-off like last year!
You can choose to enter either last year's self-select PIN or adjusted gross income (AGI) for identification purposes when e-filing your return. I recommend that you use your 2023 AGI for your spouse. Since you filed jointly in 2023, the AGI will be the exact same amount for both of you.
For more information, please see these TurboTax Help Articles:
"You can choose to enter either last year's self-select PIN or adjusted gross income (AGI) for identification purposes"
as far as I can tell this is not supported by TurboTax.
Where is the prior year self-select PIN box?
You certainly cannot enter it in the AGI box, Right?
When the return is rejected because the PIN is missing or incorrect, this is a problem which cannot be corrected! The so called "solution" to enter AGI instead of the PIN doesn't hold water and rejection follows. The only true solution (if one can call it solution) is filing by mail. Who then need Turbotax if the program cannot retreave the PIN from last year submission?

"IND-032-04: The spouse's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year doesn't match IRS records."
i.e., it's an either/or situation. So her rejection is more likely due to AGI--not a prior-year 5 digit PIN, which is no longer needed by most people. Most people verify their returns with prior-year AGI. Many people don't even save their 5-digit signing PIN from last year. The signing screen allows one to enter a new 5-digit PIN every year, if desired.
If you are filing a joint return, then you both have the same 2023 AGI; i.e., the total amount. Do not divide it. If you already tried using the same 2023 AGI for both of you and it rejected, then for her try using an AGI of 0. That sometimes corrects it if the IRS database is messed up.
