To enter a state extension payment TurboTax online, just go to federal-deductions and credits section-see all tax breaks-estimates and other income taxes paid-income taxes paid-payments made with 2023 state extension-select state, and enter 2023 state taxes paid with extension.
You can also enter the state extension payments within the deductions and credit section of TurboTax Desktop.
I followed your suggestion. However, the NY tax return (IT-201) seems to be showing a calculated amount as the extension payment on Line 75 rather than actual amount that I paid with my NY extension, which was higher. What would be the best way to resolve?
Hi,
Here are some steps:
If in TurboTax desktop, ensure the software is updated.
If in TurboTax online or desktop, go back to the area where you entered the NY extension payment. Make sure it matches the amount paid. Make sure there are no overrides or manual entries that might be on line 75 of the NY IT-201, and take a look at the whole NY return to make sure all entries make sense.
You can also try to make sure you clear cash and cookies in a google chrome browser in TurboTax online, then re-load TurboTax and try again.
You can also try to the forms view at the top right hand corner of TurboTax Desktop if you are using TurboTax online, but you would likely have to purchase TurboTax desktop then fill out a refund request form if you already paid for TurboTax online:
