If you bought a TurboTax CD at Costco and don't have a CD/DVD drive, there may be a piece of paper inside the box that tells you how to phone to get a download. If not, here's how to contact TurboTax by phone to request a download.

Since you may need to install other software in the future, you could purchase an external CD/DVD-ROM device, if you wish, which costs maybe $20-25, or you can contact TurboTax Support to request a download.

Yes, many are disappointed when they purchase a CD (when they don't have a CD drive) expecting a download code to be in the box like other programs these days. One year TT will get up to speed and provide the code.

Another quicker method is to use another computer to copy the *.exe installation file from the CD Rom to a flash/thumb/usb drive, then insert that drive into the first computer and install from the flash/thumb/usb drive. Do not try to run the install file from the removable medium.Costco CD's usually have a paper inside the box telling you how to get a download - at least they did last year.
If one wants to install from copied files from the CD, it's more than just the setup.exe that's needed. It's not an all-in-one installation file like the download file. The setup pulls from other files on the CD.

I personally would ask TurboTax Support for the download file. Then it will be in your account for at least 3 years. If you ever have to reinstall the program, it will be handy to download and install without going through all the effort to install again from the CD, and it will always be the latest release. The CD will always be Release 1, while the download file is currently Release 9.
