My son is 24/full time student. Why is it asking him for 1095A insurance information when he is filing taxes if we pay for his health insurance?

My son is 24/full time student. This is the first year he is filing his own taxes and it is asking him if he has health insurance. He does have coverage that we (his parents) provide for him through the market place. Why is it asking him for 1095A insurance information when he is filing taxes if he does not pay for his health insurance?

You can indicate that you shared the policy and prorate. The prorations must add up to 100%. If you took 100%, then his percent is zero. You can also click on the blue link.  What percentage of the following policy amounts do you want to claim on your tax return?  See "How do I figure out these percentages?" when you get to that screen.

To indicate you had insurance all year, see the image (click to enlarge and view). You would select the first option. You will also need a copy of the 1095-A on which you are listed.

For a detailed explanation you can use the information below.
