Missing tax file (*.tax2023)

I cannot find the TurboTax tax file (*.tax2023) on the hard drive (C:) of my PC. Where does TurboTax store the tax file?

I can find the 2023 tax files in the external hard drive I use for FileHistory backups.

I have been using TurboTax for many years. I store the tax files in a folder for each year. The folder name is C:\Users\garre\File System\Financial\Taxes\yyyy\ where yyyy is the tax year. For years prior to 2008 the file type is *.tax. For years 2008 to 2021 the file type is *.taxyyyy where yyyy is the tax year.

I have looked online for answer to the above questions but have been unsuccessful.

The default is documents/Turbotax.

If you installed using the default settings, there should be a "Turbo Tax" folder in your Documents folder where the .taxYYYY files are located.

@Jarpshunt01   You have the .tax2023 file?  Do you have the 2023 Desktop program installed and updated?   What happens when you double click on the .tax2023 file or go in the program up to File-Open?   Any error code or message?

After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.

I have the same problem. When I try to open my 2023 Tax return, I get error message 214 that says Forms are missing. Turbo Tax cannot open a return.
