Military retirement pay for a widow.

Is the retirement pay for a widow from her retired husband taxable? If so she should have gotten a "W2" with amount and withheld taxes NO???

Normally retirement pay would be taxable. It should be reported to you on a form 1099-R.

I'm asking for an extension because I don't have the 1099R to report that income, I've gotten the social security info and savings info! I've a extension form from  the TurboTax software but no info on how or where to submit it. What other forms may have to go with it? On top of all that I'm the executer for  the widow I'm inquiring about. HELP

You can e-file the extension through TurboTax - see this TurboTax Help article.

Are you also saying that your are the executor for the widow's late husband estate? If so, you may need to file an estate return (1041) for that (not necessarily, it depends on the estate's income).

However, you have left this to the very last minute. I would encourage you to talk tomorrow to the lawyer who helped handle the estate; the first thing you may have to do is file an extension for the estate return form 7004) if you even need to file an estate return.

We don't have enough information from you yet to know.

In any case, go back into TurboTax and file that extension (form 4868) so that you won't get a penalty for not filing in a timely manner. NOTE: the extension only extends the date to file the paperwork - if you owe money on the return, then it is due tomorrow no matter what.

DFAS (Defense Finance And Accounting) has issued all 1099-R's as of Jan 31, 2020. More than likely you need to log into your online DFAS account at mypay.dfas.com to get it.

If the military member passed in 2021, then the 2020 form 1099-R will be in their name and you will need to get it from their DFAS account; not yours.

Assuming you have completed all the paperwork and it's all been processed by DFAS, if necessary you can contact DFAS directly using the below contact information.
