I am really confused. I originally purchased turbo tax deluxe order # qstca[removed] as I was going to do my taxes as usual and have a tax preparer do and submit a return for our trust fund. Meeting with preparer I was told it would be more beneficial to include schedule k with my personal returns. Since deluxe does not allow for schedule k I submitted and was granted a full refund on deluxe and I ordered and received turbo tax home and business order # qstca[removed] only to discover it also does not include schedule k. My fault for not doing more research. I am with great shame asking for a refund on the home and business desktop software. And my next question is why isn't trust fund filing included with home and business? Seems logical.

@pfmessinger Do you need to create a Schedule K-1 or do you need to enter a Schedule K-1 on your tax return?

If you need to enter a schedule K-1, any of the TurboTax desktop editions can be used.

To enter a Schedule K-1

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Business Items (Business Investment and Estate/Trust Income using Home and Business)
On Schedule K-1, Q, click on the start or update button

Or enter k-1 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to k-1

If you need to create a Schedule K-1 for a Partnership or for a  Corporation, then you will need to use the TurboTax Business Edition.  The Business Edition can only be installed on Windows based personal computer or for a higher fee you can use the Live Assist Business Edition on the TurboTax website.  The Business Edition cannot be used for a personal tax return.

Go to this TurboTax website for the 2024 Business Edition - https://turbotax.intuit.com/small-business-taxes/cd-download/

I made  $10,744.94 in gains in Forex trading.  My broker is a Virgin Island Broker named OX Securities.

1. They do not provide me with a 1099.  How do I file? I have set up a 1009-Misc.  However, it wants an EIN.  I do not have an EIN for/from them.

2. Form 6781: 12 (C) requires a Date closed or sold.  I have not sold or closed anything.  It remains in my OX broker account.  What do I do here?

3. Form 6781: (a) Name of Contract - Would that be Ox Securites?

4. I have fees that I made to open and maintain the Forex account. Where do I enter information for my fees?

I would be very grateful for help on this! Thank you!

First of all, you wouldn't report this until you actually sell or close anything. The only exception is if you have to report these under the mark-to-market rules. These rules say you must treat open positions as if they were sold at fair market value at year-end. This ensures unrealized gains and losses are accounted for annually. if you are not sure whether this applies, chances are you aren't required to report this under marked to market rules.

If you are required,  you will report this as 1256 contract. This would be reported in the Contracts and Straddles section in the investment income section of TurboTax.

  1. As you work through this section, the program will ask  any elections. Here check the box that says straddle by straddle identification.
  2. The next screen gives a list of contracts and straddles, check Section 1256 contracts marked to market.
  3. The next section will give the choice to enter these as a total or individually.
  4. The next screen asks for the broker information and gains and losses. There is no EIN in this section. If TurboTax asks for one later, enter 99-0999999.
  5. Because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in 2017, investment expenses are no longer deductible on a federal return but may be deductible on your state return. You can report this under:
  • Go to Deductions and Credits
  • Retirement and investments
  • Other Investment Expenses

Once this is all said and done, a 6781 will be generated reporting your gains as a Marked-to-Market entry. When you enter this information, you can give Ox Bow Securities as a description.

As an FYI, if you enter this information like a stock and bond or security sale, remove it from this section on the return. Forex transactions aren't reported in this manner.

How do I add a second license to a turbo tax that is already installed

Level 15
Apr 13, 2025 3:22:43 PM

@Fplett54 There is no need to add a second license.  Adding a second license does not give you more e-files.  The IRS limit is five federal e-files.    You will not be able to put two 2024 downloads on the same computer--it will not work.   The download you already have can prepare and e-file up to five federal returns and the state returns that correspond to them.  If you have more returns you can print and mail them.

@user17549315027 Please stop attempting to post phone numbers, etc.  in this public user forum.  Anyone using the internet can see your posts, and scammers and identity thieves love to troll here so that they can pretend to call you from TurboTax.   Luckily the filter removed most of it except for your name.  You can edit out your name by going to the three blue dots on the upper right.

UPDATE MY ACCOUNT

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/account-updates/help/how-do-i-update-my-turbotax-account-information/00/25927

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)

I can not log in to my software

@user17571249430 You have not mentioned whether you are using desktop download software or if you are trying to use online TurboTax.   If you are using desktop download software, you do not "log in" to an online account; you open the program that you downloaded by going to your own hard drive to open it, just like you open other programs on your computer.

If you are using online TurboTax:

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Hello,

I've recently gone though a divorce & all of my old hard copies of financial info from 2020 was disposed of.  I'm wondering if you can help me track down my W-2 from 2020? We always submitted through here but I don't see where my old records would be.

Level 15
Sep 12, 2025 12:35:56 PM

You should have your own copy.

Turbo Tax doesn't have copies of your W2.  Only the info you entered from it or imported.  It would have W-2 worksheets that included the tax data from the forms that were entered.  The worksheets would be included in the PDF of the tax return.

See,  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forms/help/how-can-i-get-a-copy-of-my-w-2/00/26328

You can download the pdf file with all the worksheets and see a summary of what you entered.

If you need a copy of the actual W2 you have to ask your employer for another copy or get a W2 copy from SSA

https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

Or If you just need the information from your W-2, but not an actual copy, you can get a Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS for free. This will contain the information from all the W-2s that were sent to the IRS by your employers. However, it does not include the state and local information (boxes 15 - 20). Go to the following link to get a transcript. You want a Wage and Income Transcript, not a Tax Return Transcript.

If you want a copy of your return and forms,  How to Access prior year online returns
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010

If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2024 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2024. I had to go though about 12 screens.

If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups.

Or request a transcript from the IRS
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Or get a copy of your return using form 4506
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

How can I check to see if my 2024 tax was sent via e mail through turbo tax

Level 15
Sep 18, 2025 12:54:55 PM

@Robert1701    Did you efile it?   If you efiled was it Accepted? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Check back though your emails and spam/junk folder.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?

If your account says Printed or Ready to Mail that means you have to actually print out your tax return and mail it to the IRS yourself. So it has not been filed yet. And it will always say Ready to Mail. Turbo Tax doesn’t know if or when you mailed it and the IRS doesn’t update Turbo Tax when they get your mailed return.
