Is there a link to TurboTax 2019 release notes?

Hi,

The link for TurboTax release notes is for TurboTax 2018.  Is there a link for 2019?  I had one update for TT2019 upon install a week or so back, and another update tonight.

Thanks,

-Scotty

I haven't been able to locate that link, either.  However, I did post a question for a TurboTax Moderator to see later today (Wednesday) when they come into work.  Hopefully someone will reply to your question at that time.  Thanks for your patience!

Do not expect them to publish release notes until sometime in January like usual  ... until the IRS is ready to receive returns by efile consider the program incomplete and subject to changes.

Patience will be needed while thousands of changes need to be done ... and of course the IRS changed the forms again which is also more to deal with.   The new program is NEVER EVER  up to speed before  late January and many things will not be operational well into February or later.

In my opinion they should not distribute any undeveloped program  but the users demand the program be released early so they get what they asked for ... an incomplete semi operational beta version ... and all just to capture the market share by locking in users.

When will my forms be ready?

Historically, IRS tax forms start becoming available in January, with a few stragglers (most notably Form 1040X) getting finalized in February.

State tax forms can become available for filing any time between December and late February, depending on the state and the tax form.

For specific forms and dates, refer to the Forms Availability Table for your TurboTax product, see the related information below.

Can I Still Work On My Return Before My Forms are Ready?

Yes, according to the following:

Federal Taxes
You can still work on your return and finish most of it. Once your forms become available, we’ll create the forms and include all of your info.

You’ll only be able to e-file or print your return once the forms are available.

While you’re working on your return, we’ll ask if you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.

State Taxes
If your forms aren’t available, you’ll get a message asking you to return once they become available.

While you’re working on your return, you’ll have a chance to let us know you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.

IRS Forms Availability Table for TurboTax Individual (Personal) Tax Products

Click on the REVIEW tab and the program will tell you what in your return is still NOT ready and the estimated date it will be (subject to change of course ) ... you can put in for an email alert when they are ready ....

Every year we go through this same thing; Intuit creates updates and doesn't tell us what was changed by clicking on the offered links.  They don't seem to understand (or, I might be so bold) that this is really stupid on their part and makes their development team look really dumb.  Either don't make changes early, or tell us what you changed.  It's not that hard folks. Morons.

Nobody can respond to a simple question in two weeks? Wow, extremely poor customer service

Hi all,

I don't work for Intuit; I'm a user just like you.  There is apparently some question as to whether or not update release notes will continue at all.  I am again bringing this thread to the attention of the forum Moderators.  I can only hope that all of us (I'm curious, too) will have some info very soon.  I apologize.  Thank you for your (extensive) patience!

The first image below is of the window that opens after updating TT.

After clicking on the "More details" hyperlink, the second image below opens in IE 11 (don't know about Chrome, Edge, etc.).  In prior years, that hyperlink took me to a version log with information that kept me informed and up to date.

Intuit, please correct the TT 2019 - Updater hyperlink.   Thank you in advance.

TurboTax has removed release notes for the TurboTax software effective for tax year 2019.  They will be removing the More details link in the Updater window later during the 2019 tax season.

Do you know why?  Will they be reinstated sometime in 2020 as they've done for several years now.  Your message sounds like a step BACKWARD in that they're not going to have release notes period.  These are important, as they tell us what forms are now available for filing, and so on. Something doesn't sound kosher here.

As far as known this is a permanent change in procedure.

You can still find IRS forms availability using this link (should be available sometime in December) - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forms/help/irs-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-individual-personal-tax-products/01/26224

Thank you for your timely reply.  This is not good news I fear.  The information that was on the web also had more information sometimes (as I seem to recall) other than just form availability.  Well, we'll just have to see how it plays out.  The only constant thing is change.

This is TERRIBLE customer service.  I specifically use TurboTax to estimate my taxes and therefore start early.  I fully realize that forms and the program will update, but I'd like to know what changed after I complete a section of my taxes.  Why is it so difficult to say what has been changed or fixed?  Please continue your past practice.

Wake up Turbo Tax.  When I click on a link, I expect it to take me where I want to go.

How hard can it be to show the updates, as you have done in the past.

That is very sad to learn of. Is there a way to report bugs in the interview and/or forms still or is that only via a support representative?

@jonathan klein   I am able to pass along a message reporting a bug in the program to TurboTax forum moderators.  Please describe the issue, in detail, and I'll share your post.  Thank you so much for your assistance.

Repeatedly copy/pasting that Turbo Tax is getting rid of this information is NOT listening to your customers.  This seems like a very low effort service that Turbo Tax is dropping that has a big impact on your customers.  Why is it being dropped?

@cummingscm Neither I nor @DoninGA are employees of TurboTax.  We're just passing along the info that we've been given.  We've not been given an explanation of why the release notes are being eliminated.  Even though the "More Details" icon is still there, if is non-functional.  Not quite sure why TT can't just remove it.

TT has never released the update notes prior to the program being fully operational sometime in January  and even when they did they were never really updated frequently so they were basically useless overall.   If the current "more info" button is not doing anything and they have not yet removed it then either they will remove it later or it will become operational later.

A word to the wise ... unless you have a very simple W-2 only return you should never file prior to mid to late February when most of the updates and bugs have been worked out.  Waiting until mid March or later is even better.

Also,  once you have filed you should shut off the auto update function and save both a PDF & .taxfile of the return to a separate storage medium for safekeeping.   Then towards the end of the tax year you can update the program one more time to see if anything was changed that affected your return which would require you to amend ... having the original return to work off is critical in this case.

Release Notes should be standard for any software package.  Why has this been removed from turbotax?

Release notes answer such questions as

1) has a bug been fixed so that someone can complete their taxes,

2) does a fix relate to a section of the tax forms that may change my calculations/values,

3) do I need to revisit a fixed section because it was incorrect before?
