Is Form 4852 (2020) Substitute for 1099-R really available?

I need to use a Form 4852 Substitute for Form 1099-R. TurboTax Premier says it is not available and I cannot e-file. However, I received a message from TT Support saying that this form IS available. My TT Premier is up to date with latest updates.

Is Form 4852 available now (for tax year 2020)? If so, how do I get my copy of TT Premier to include it?

I have already done all the update stuff. What's the secret to getting it on my system??

And, when I get it, can I e-file?

Thanks

It is wrong that the Form 4852 cannot be e-filed.  With the latest program update, which I initiated today (03/02/2021), I was able to e-file my Federal- and State-returns, and I already got confirmation of that my Federal Return was accepted.

Thank you.

In the table, does "unsupported" mean that if i use this form I cannot efile?

You are very welcome! You are correct, you would not be able to efile due to the "unsupported"

I have the same problem.  TurboTax says that my Form 4852 is available for download, but it is NOT.

I have been e-filing tax returns with Form 4852 for for the last five years 2015 to 2019.  Why can I not e-file if I have these form in my Federal Tax Return for 2020.  Is this a TurboTax problem or an IRS problem?

Form 4852 cannot be e-filed. It can only be included with a mailed tax return.

Form 4852, Substitute Form W-2 or 1099R is scheduled to be available for printing on 02/25/2021

How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852? How to file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852

Thanks. No better proof than actually making it happen.

So, do not listen to the experts, just keep on updating the program and the forms and it should work from now on.

I was able to fill in both fields, but I am using Turbo Tax Premier running on Windows 10.  I think the program might issue a generic explanation if you are not filling in field 9 and 10.  A friendly call from IRS can solve the problem as well.  If you were able to add Institution name, address and phone number, IRS can check your information that way.  Good Luck.

Form 4852 is not available for e-file.  If you are preparing this form, you would need to print out forms and submit by mail.

Another option you can do is to enter information under "Other Income".  This way you can e-file your tax return.

  • Sign in to your account and select Pick up where you left off
  • To your left, select Federal
  • From the top, select Wages and Income
  • Scroll down to last section -Less Common Income -select  Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C- Start
  • Next screen, scroll down to Other Reportable Income- Start
  • Follow prompts

 For more information, see http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/The-Taxation-of-Foreign-Pension-and-Annuity-Distributions

If it is not taxable to you,

  • report your full amount as instructed above. Then enter the treaty exempt amount as negative amount (e.g. -5000) under Other Reportable Income as instructed above.
  • Download and fill in a Form 8833 from IRS to claim an exception.  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8833.pdf
  • You cannot e-file.  You may still use the TurboTax program to prepare all your tax forms, but you would need to print them out and submit by mail along with form 8833.

Last year (2019 tax), TT desktop allowed me to e-file my tax report with form 4852 to IRS. Is this a new change this year? (California, my state, did not allow e-file and I filed it over mail.)
