Is anyone having trouble importing a 1099 from your broker?

is anyone having trouble importing a 1099 from your broker Edward Jones?

Did you try to import by going through the correct path?

Or you can enter the information manually.  Here are the steps:

 

In TurboTax online,

 

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in 1099b and Enter 
  • Select Jump to 1099b
  • Follow prompts and choose "I'll type it myself"

TurboTax reports: "Unable to download since one or more of your Edward Jones account(s) has incomplete tax information. Try again at a later date."

 

The files are Final, the broker thinks they are fine, and entering by hand is the last option, long after buying different software. The problem occurs either in the File > Import menu or the Personal > Personal Income > Let Us Enter your 1099-DIV (or 1099-INT) page, take your choice.

 

One change from the Edward Jones side that may matter (nobody has indicated this yet) is that I see in their file selection  PDF | Excel | CSV as choices, and in earlier years the file seems to have always been PDF. There's no clues how the TT software file selection works, but it ought to handle the PDF just fine.

 

That's all I know., except that one user that was having problems succeeded finally. I have not.

 

I commented on the other link, too. This problem seems to be working fine today (Wednesday 2/19). Other than talk with support for some time yesterday, I'm not aware of any changes. So, I'd suggest trying one more time...

when i try to import any type of information I get a message "Internal Server Error", and then Turbotax quits advancing.Any suggestions??

Yes, having trouble downloading Edward Jones brokerage account.  Error message says system does not recognize ID or password but I can sign on to Edward Jones with same ID and PW.  Tried 6 times same error message.   Using Premier Turbotax.

I went through correct path in TurboTax as I have for many years.  I have 400 transactions which is one reason I have been using Turbo Tax so I'm not very fond of keying the data manually.

@GLJ987 You may need to check your brokerage to see if they are allowing third-party access. Although the following Help Article is for Schwab, it is possible that your brokerage has restricted TurboTax's access to your statements unless you grant consent, and you might need to do something similar to what is described here:

From time to time the broker's format is not compatible with TurboTax.

 

However, you can quickly enter this manually.  Your brokerage statements should include a summary of your transactions, grouped by sales category.

 

There are seven possible "Box" designations that indicate the holding period (Long/Short Term) and the reporting status.  These are the only ones you have to summarize. If you want to manually enter your 1099-B as the summaries.

 

  1. Tell us about your 1099-B sales for this  account
  2. Answer the questions
  3. Since you have more than a few  sales, we recommend entering sales section totals
  4. Continue
  5. Before entering sales section totals, take a moment to find them on your 1099-B
  6. Continue
  7. Now, we'll enter one sales section total on your  1099-B
  8. Use the drop down menu to select the correct designation.

 

Code A. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS.

 

Code B. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS.  

 

Box C. Report on a Part I with box C checked all short-term transactions for which you can't check box A or B because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement). 

 

Code D. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS.

  

Code E. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS.  

 

Box F.  Report on a Part II with box F checked all long-term transactions for which you can't check box D or E because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement).

 

Code X. Use this code to report a transaction if you cannot determine whether the recipient should check box B or box E on Form 8949 because the holding period is unknown.

 

  1. Open or continue your return (if it's not already open) and search inside TurboTax for the phrase stock sales.
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to both Did you sell stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or other investments? and Did or will you receive a 1099-B form or brokerage statement for these sales?
  4. If you land on Here are all your 1099-B sales, select Add sales from a different brokerage. Then answer Yes to Did or will you receive a 1099-B form or brokerage statement for these sales?
  5. When asked how you want to enter your 1099-B, select I'll type it in myself.
  6. Select or enter your brokerage on the next screen and continue.
  7. On the following screen (Tell us about...), answer the questions until you reach the next screen. Select the second option, Let's enter a summary instead, and select Continue.
  8. You'll now be able to enter the total proceeds (sales) and cost basis, along with the sales category. Refer to your 1099-B for the amounts and category. When finished, select Continue.
  9. When you are done, you'll eventually come to the Here's a summary of your broker sales screen where you can edit, delete, or enter more sales.

You will have to mail a copy of your 1099-B to the IRS.  TurboTax will produce a Form 8453. You print the Form 8453 and attach the brokerage statement(s) to it.

I don’t want to manually enter my info. I paid for a program with this feature. It simplifies my filing greatly and expect to use this feature as in past years. Programming issue? Not my problem...fix it!,

Have you checked and ensured that your broker is an approved Turbo Tax partner and if so, ensured that third party access is enabled? Please see the 2 links below: @korcengel28

Please make sure you have approved 3rd party authorizations with Edward Jones. Because they will reject your request without receiving 3rd party authorizations. You can do this by visiting the Security Center in your account.

I paid good price to buy turbotax for year of 2021, but it's so difficulty to use comparing with last year, I have had trouble to import 1099-Int from all major banks, I am so tired and upset.

SOLUTION 

Edward Jones contacted me.

Eliminate special characters in Edward Jones account ant it works. Also, remember this device so no second authentication is required like a text. I tried for a week. Finally resolved.

I am having the same problem. Last year it was fine. Looks like a bug in this year's version. Has any one got this working with Edward Jones this year?

Yes, I did I have been importing data for the last few years and I have not had any problems prior to this year.

I am getting the same error attempting import from Edward Jones: 

TurboTax 2022 Premier

The system did not recognize the User ID or Password you entered. Please try again.

The issue could be with special characters or two-factor authentication.  Please try this solution from an earlier post.  

 

The following are further troubleshooting steps, if needed:

  • Sign in to your brokerage account and confirm you have enabled third-party access to your account information
  • Change your password for your online brokerage account, then sign back in to TurboTax and start the import process again using your new password
  • Check with your brokerage to see if you need to be enrolled in online access in order to import
  • When signing in to your brokerage account from TurboTax, try entering two extra characters at the end of the password, then delete the extra characters and press enter

I don't use any special characters in my Edward Jones sign-on.  I do get through and into the EJ site and see some of my accounts, that is, only the 1099R's.  The other accounts with 1099-INT, -DIV and OID's are not being displayed for import into TTax.  Thanks.

eliminating special characters in Ed Jones password is NOT a solution if using TT desktop for Windows with the MS Edge browser.  Never had them, still don't, and the problem persists.  It would be helpfull if people posting about this issue clarify which platform they're using.
