Is anyone having trouble after the latest 2022 Turbotax Mac update? Received a Mac error: TurboTax 2022.app cannot be opened because of a problem.

It worked fine the other day, but it appeared the last update is bad.  I tried reinstalling, but of course it forces an update on launch and the same thing happened.

Yes, similar difficulties started today. It only impacts certain MacOS versions.

Yes,  I'm having the same problem!  Just tried today... hopefully they fix it soon.   I tried re-installing TurboTax 2022 -- still didn't work.

I'm on Big Sur MacOS 11.7.8

I am currently in the support queue to let them know about the problem.  My guess is they tested against the latest version but it doesn't work with older versions.  I'll report back here after I talk with them.

Glad to hear someone is working it... I've reinstalled TurboTax2022... no joy...

Currently using Mac OS Big Sur  11.7.8

Error Message says:

Check with the developer to make sure TurboTax 2022 works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and macOS.

I talked with Intuit customer support.  They are aware of the issue and believe it is associated with recent Apple patches.  It appears all versions of Mac OS are impacted.  They don't have an ETA on resolution.

It actually runs fine on Ventura (MacOS 13.4.1), but not everyone can run that OS.

Thanks Jim!   Would you please post here if you hear of any fixes?

"They are aware of the issue and believe it is associated with recent Apple patches."

I'm seeing the same issue on Mac OS 11.6. Since Turbotax launched fine, suggested an update, and then failed to launch, I can't see how it can be associated with recent Apple patches. I don't have automatic updates on, and 11.6 isn't exactly a recent update.

I'm using Ventura 13.4.1 (c) and have been unable to efile.  TurboTax "quits unexpectedly" when I try to efile and it reaches the "Transmitting" step.  TurboTax opens and appears to be functional except for the efile problem.  I've tried Firefox, Safari, and Chrome browsers with the browser cache cleared and popup blockers off, but no success.  Rebooted the modem, router, and computer without success. Haven't had any internet problems with any other applications. Hope TurboTax is able to come up with a solution.  TT support said that they put me on an email list to get updates.

I have sent crash log files  to Intuit support at their request.  I'll post here if I get a resolution.

It doesn't have anything to do with Apple patches.  It worked two weeks ago for me, I tried again the other day and applied the required TurboTax updates then it quit working.  I updated to the latest macOS 11.7.8 and it still didn't work after several reinstalls.

TurboTax, please rollback your buggy update.  I need to file my taxes.

Update

Received an email from Intuit that there was a new TT update.  Downloaded and installed the TT update and was able to efile my taxes. Received confirmation of receipt for federal and state taxes.

I just tried again- reinstalled version I downloaded July 15 of TT and after it automatically updated, it failed again.  I'm on Big Sur 11.7.8.  Perhaps rberg90 is on a different OS version?

I'm running  Ventura 13.4.1 (c) as noted above.  The update that I installed was the update offered when I opened TurboTax. I don't have a link for it. I'm using the Home and Business CD version  of TT.

I was able to e-file my federal and state returns after this update was installed.  I'll keep checking the status of my returns to make sure they are actually into the systems and being processed.

It looks like there are multiple problems listed in this thread so multiple updates may be required to fix them all.

Yes.  Unable to install Home and Business on a Mac running Big Sur.

I'll add to my previous post that Mac is OS Big Sur v. 11.7.8 , MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013) , which is 32 bit . There is discussion on some forums of end-of-software support for 32 bit macs , but it doesn't seem that Intuit (or Apple) would cut off the support abruptly like that. Hoping the issue is just a bad update release (affecting mostly older macs), and will be fixed soon.

Hello all,

To add on to my previous post from yesterday...

I was able to solve the issue and get TurboTax to launch.  I was previously running the latest version of Big Sur.  This morning I upgraded my Mac OS to Monterey (Version 12.6.7), and the program now launches without error.  For additional context, I'm running this on a Mac mini (2018) with an Intel i7.

Good luck to everyone.  This was very stressful...

Talk about stressful, My MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) Running MacOS Big Sur (11.7.4) will not update to Monterey. Literally worked fine a couple weeks ago to print a tax form which I now have to re-print. Return will not open. Get a massive error log. Now I need to figure out how to access all my past tax information.

**bleep** Apple and **bleep** Intuit. Application opened fine  a few weeks ago, opened and updated today then got error.

Why won't they let us open up TurboTax with "prior version", so that at least we could get in then and reprint a tax return.   That is all I am trying to do and it will not let me

This has nothing to do with Apple. Apple publishes release notes when they update an OS version and TurboTax should be on top of that. The code update fails while looking for a library that TurboTax SHOULD know isn't at the path where it's looking (because starting in Big Sur,  Apple puts all the system libraries in a cache that can be accessed  by a linker). The fact that this worked previously tells me some other developer made a change that violates that. There are plenty of support sites that discuss why the update is failing with the error code that it's throwing. The problem is that finding a workaround is not straightforward.

And the mystery is why TurboTax hasn't fixed this given that it worked before (and is likely a small fix). The other mystery is why it (allegedly) works on Ventura, but not Big Sur. One thing is for certain: this will be my last year using TurboTax. I called and asked to have the license code reset so I could install the software on a Windows box. Nope. They wouldn't do it despite not being able to proceed after the FORCED update that crashes.

A workaround on MacOS BigSur

Use TimeMachine to restore the good copy of TurboTax 2022 from your backups (i restored my version from mid -April).  Disconnect from the internet before you launch it (so it doesnt trigger the update).   You will get back a working version of TurboTax 2022 on Bigsur

You still can't E-file, which is the step I was at when the update was forced on me. As soon as you try to E-file, you are forced to install the update that crashes.
