Is anyone else missing 2 DLL files that prevent you from installing 2023 TurboTax deluxe?

[Edit]  It now seems that there is still a bit of x86 code in the CD/download version and it's the x86 version rather than the x64 version of the Virtual C++ Redistributable package that is missing from the TurboTax installation.  This is probably only going to be missing from a PC that did not have TurboTax installed for some year prior to 2023.

For 2023, TurboTax switched from an x86 build to an x64 build.  Unfortunately the TurboTax installer assumes that the latest Virtual C++ Redistributable package for x64 x86 is already installed and that's not always the case.  The x64 x86 redistributable package can be found here:

No.

Installed TurboTax 2023 on a Dell desktop with Windows 10 with no issues

Installed TurboTax 2023 on a HP laptop with Windows 11 with no issues

Both PC's have the latest Windows updates.

Have you installed the most recent Windows updates?  Reboot your computer and then see if you get the same errors.  If so, uninstall TurboTax and reinstall.

CANT BE SURE THIS IS YOUR ISSUE. based on one other thread about corrupt dlls there are two that come with Microsoft Visual C++ that are needed to install Turbo Tax (don't come with the Turbotax program). so the first thing I would do is reboot. they may have been downloaded as an update but lack of rebooting prevents installation. if this doesn't work you can try to contact support

5am-5pm Pacific Time (8-8 Eastern) Monday - Friday
https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact
800-446-8848

OR at your own risk you can

1) first see if MV C++ is installed by going to the control panel clicking on it and then scrolling down the list

to see if installed. for 64 bit Windows operating systems there are two versions 32-bit (X86) and 64-bit (X64)

mine are 2015-2022 14.32.31332

2) if you find them one at a time highlight then click change another window should appear which will allow you to select repair. when dome reboot and repeat the process for the second.

OR at your own risk if the apps are present select uninstall or if missing skip

and then go to the MS website to download the current versions.

note C++ is also referred to as Studio. open your internet browser and type microsoft visual C++ in the search bar.

there are separate downloads for 32-bit and 634-bit. if you don't have a g4-bit OS you don't need the 64-bit version.

if both are needed you can download both without installing but install x86 first then reboot then install x64

and reboot.

I tried installing the x64 files and I still get the missing msvcp140.dll and VCRUNTIME140.dll.

What should I try next?

did you reboot after installing them? if not do so. if yes or reboot doesn't work try the x32 bit files. and make sure to reboot.  if this doesn't work contact support

try the 32-bit (x86). it seemed to have worked for an op.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022

at your own risk

if you see both the Microsoft Visual C++ ver 14.xxxx x86 and x64 in the programs and features menu

click on the x86. then change. a new window should come up to allow you to check repair reboot

do the same for the x64 version then reboot

alternatively you can uninstall these versions one at a time and reboot each time. then download both versions from the website and install x86 version first then reboot then the x64 version then reboot.

this is an attempt to replace corrupted files with new ones that repair didn't fix.

another thing you can try is to run "system file checker" at the elevated command prompt. Your User Account Control must designate you as an administrator

type "cmd" no quotes in search box

then in the window that opens click on run as administrator on the right side

a new window will open probably showing c:\windows\system32

type  sfc /scannow don't forget the space between sfc and /scannow

if any of these work post back and report which worked since that may help others with the same issue.

Confirming that there is a problem with the disc version of the program missing dll files (VCRUNTIME140.dll
and MSVCP140.DLL).  In my case I was able to resolve the problem by using the download version, which appears to be fixed with respect to this issue.  The problem will not occur in all PCs, depending on which version(s) of Visual C++ are installed.  Of course, I learned this after wasting a couple of hours trying to "fix" my computer.

The download works because I believe the MS Visual C++ package is bundled with Turbotax.

with online no such thing.

I have the same problem with CD installation, I can not install the software setup to proceed from here.  I hope TurboTax Intuit technical support can solve this problem quickly because it seems everyone has the same problem as I do with CD installation.  Thanks.

Actually you should use the download method instead of the CD.  It has more advantages over CD.  Then you can also download it another computer. Once you install the CD you can't install it again like if you need to reinstall the program or install on a different computer.

There should be a card in the CD case on on the CD envelope that says how to download it and you will need the 14 or 16 digit code from it to enter.

Read some older posts. This was answered and solved in previous posts.  Go back about a month. I know it has something to do with Visual C+++ version. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio...

You are a genius.  Turbo Tax owes you a lot of praise for your post.   I loaded 6 versions of the X65 version as my old cpu died and never thought about x32

Many Thanks

I followed Mike9241's link and downloaded the x86 version. Installed that version and rebooted as suggested and this process worked for me.
Some notes, I'm using Windows 10. I have TurboTax 2020, 2021, and 2022 installed, but I still had the missing DLL problem when trying to install the CD version of TurboTax 2023. I did make sure to install the latest updates from Microsoft using the Control Panel's system updater.
