Import from Schwab results in "Login is temporarily unavailable"

I am trying to import a 1099-B from Schwab. Have way too many transactions to enter manually and this is one of the main reasons I used Turbotax

Every time I jump through the new login hoops I get this message:

"Login is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later or call customer support."

Here are things to note:

* This first happened two days ago and is still happening. It shows no sign of being temporary.

* Yes I am using a correct Schwab login and I use it daily. I can login successfully with the same credentials on their regular website.

* Yes I have gone into the Schwab settings and checked "Allow third party access".

* I've done this 4 years in a row without issue, only this year with this new system is there an issue.

I have not called customer support as I'd rather chew glass, and this seems like an Intuit issue since Schwab works fine in a normal browser. Anyone else having this issue?

The form lost the info but this is the downloaded version of TurboTax 2021 Deluxe for Mac

Did search before posting but the results included nothing for "Schwab"

In any case, have since found out there are many threads on here about the same issue and it seems to work occasionally. It finally worked for me this morning. All good

I get the exact same message. I have been getting it for over a week now. I have made sure everything is correct in my account settings. Doesn't appear temporary. I never had any issues in the past years with this.

Same story here. Dear intuit, do you mind addressing the issue PLEASE?

For assistance with fixing your import issue, please see the below TurboTax help article.

How can I fix my 1099 import issue?

If you are using TurboTax CD/Download software, please make sure your software is up-to-date before trying to import again. The below TurboTax help article can assist with this.

How do I update my TurboTax CD/Download software program?

I'm having the same repeating issue with the "Login is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later or call customer support."

* I'm using Turbo Tax Premier for Mac

* Yes I am using a correct Schwab login and I use it daily. I can login successfully with the same credentials on their regular website.

* Yes I have gone into the Schwab settings and checked "Allow third party access".

The reply from the Intuit expert did not address this "Temporary..." issue. IT IS NOT TEMPORARY - it keeps happening.

I have exactly the same problem and same situation except I called Schwab customer support, they offered no answer.  Asking me to wait which does not appear to work.

I have the same problem "login is temporarily unavailable".  These answers don't work as everything addressed in the article are properly set.

@hlkzbill

If this still isn't working for you, please try to utilize the workaround posted on this thread here

I have been using TT for probably 35 years. Not being able to import is terrible. Unfortunately the "expert" Michelle O. from TT is wrong, updating does not cure the problem. We still cannot import. This problem needs to be escalated to highest level. Only reason I use TT.

Same. Went on with customer support and did the following with no success:

1.  Verified 3rd party access enabled with Schwab

2. Uninstalled and reinstalled turbotax

3. changed password at schwab, shut down turbotax, relaunched turbotax again, and tried again

4.  cleared cache and cookies from browser

The workaround I was given?  Enter the 2,000+ trades from my 1099-B manually.  They don't even have the option of importing a CSV file, which is ridiculous.

@Hea @EbonyA None of the solutions offered have helped.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled TurboTax.

I have made sure 3rd party permissions are given in Schwab.

I have cleared my cache.

I have changed my password with schwab and tried again.

Manual entry of 2,000+ trades that are on my three separate 1099s I am needing to import is what I tried to avoid by purchasing the software in the first place.  It would even help if a CSV file could be imported.

SBOX and others, thank you so much for documenting this defect in the 2021 TurboTax software, I was getting really frustrated with the continued message you reported TWO WEEKS ago!  I am using the PC version installed from Disc on a new Dell laptop and TTax has been auto-updated as recently as today. It still gives reported error:

"Login is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later or call customer support."

Like the others here, I made sure I could login with same credentials at Schwab, to be sure there were no basic problems or NEW prompts at Schwab that might not be anticipated at TTax.  Still wondering if dual authentication prompt on a Schwab account might be omitted in the TTax app.

Like several here, reported it to Intuit Support and they did NOT ask me to do the workarounds as they've probably noticed those obvious workarounds were not helping folks. They did take my problem seriously and said they are working on it now. They promised to email me when there was a fix in place. They realize that for the many who have called Support, there is no manual workaround and it needs to be fixed ASAP.  Maybe after 2 weeks of troubleshooting their software Dev team realizes there is a defect in the import which has to be fixed. Like many of you reported, this feature has worked faithfully for many years, so hopefully they can isolate what has happened recently that would break their code or to not align with Schwab code. I am going to escalate it with Schwab too, as some of you have, as this is very disappointing and a complete hard-stop to being able to do taxes that involve bank/investment imports. VERY disappointing but hopeful now that Support understands severity!

@BLR5

What version of TurboTax are you using? Also, are you using Windows or Mac?

I decided in desperation to try import only the 1099-B from the 1099-B section after selecting "add more sales" (instead of trying to import 1099's from the file tab, from the other 1099 sections, or right away in the 1099-B section) and it worked.  It imported all 1099 documents from Schwab when I used import with Schwab doing it that way.  No idea why.

Thanks BLR5 for the tip, testing out the File menu Import drop-down like you described and noticing that on the TTax Community chat there's also some comments about this being a known problem when you ask the program to "guide" you through the income section. I am going to try doing it without the Guided feature, to select which Income sections I want to work on to see if that works around the defect. Glad you mentioned which product you were using, I gave my version but failed to mention its the TTax Deluxe home version for me..... comes with Deluxe headaches and delays. Disappointed in the lack of regression testing of this most basic import feature that has stopped so many customers from being able to use the program.

The workaround of restarting the TTax Program without going into the Guided steps for income seems to have resolved the Income import issue for me. When I selected to do the Income sections one by one (unguided) and imported the broker dividends. it suddenly accepted my Schwab credentials and asked me to select which accounts to import after connecting to Schwab.

Once that was done, the import went as designed and let me specify which accounts should be imported into our 1040 form. Big relief, still feels like software defects need to be fixed, that was a mess and took hours of my time and others on this thread to try every workaround. Painful delays and could have been avoided by proper software testing.

I am having the same trouble logging into Schwab whether I do manual or guided.  Just on the phone to TurboTax Support and they are not even aware of this issue.

Following up: This finally worked for me a few days after my original post. I didn't change anything, it just happened to work.
