I was divorced before the end of the year. Selecting single says unmarried at end of year. Does selecting one over the other get me more tax refund than the other?

If you were not legally married on 12/31/2023 then you have to file as Single on your 2023 tax return.

Selecting which 2?  Divorced, unmarried and Single are all the same as Single.  If you were Divorced by Dec 31 you are Single for the whole year.

If you used Turbo Tax last year you should start a brand new account for yourself and not transfer from last year. Online is only good for 1 return. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. How to start another return in the Online version

If your divorce was finalized by the end of 2023, you will be filing as Single for 2023, or ......if you are the custodial parent of the children....maybe as Head of Household.  You cannot file as "married."

There are different standard deduction amounts for Single and Head of Household.

Am I Head of Household?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2900097-what-is-a-qualifying-person-for-head-of-household

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.

Your standard deduction lowers your taxable income.  It is not a refund.  You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12 of your 2023 Form 1040.

2023 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS

SINGLE $13,850  (65 or older/legally blind + $1850)

MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $13,850  (65 or older/legally blind + $1500)

MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $27,700  (65+/legally blind) )  + $1500 per spouse

HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD  $20,800 (65 or older/blind)  + $1850)
