I was able to upload a .pdf of my W2 but I’m not seeing the option to do this for my wife’s W2s. There was an option for Turbo Tax to get the W2s from ADP but there is no “box D” o

on her W2 forms

Here's how you can import your wife's W-2 into TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select the search icon at the top of the page and search for W-2 and select the Jump to link.
  3. Select Work on my W-2 now and Continue.
    1. If you've already entered a W-2, select the Add another W-2 button.
  4. Enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box b on your W-2.
  5. If your W-2 can be imported, you'll come to the Great news! We can automatically import your W-2 info automatically screen. Provide the requested information to complete your import.

If TurboTax doesn't recognize your EIN you can use the TurboTax mobile app, you can snap a photo of your W-2 using your smart phone.

You can also manually enter your W-2. We've got instructions for TurboTax Online and the TurboTax mobile app.

Where is the Search button to select documents from my computer on the W2 screen. Using desktop version. The only search on the top right leads to Help Topics.

You are commenting on an old thread. What is it you are trying to search for? @lali000

As I had asked, Where is the Search button to select documents from my computer on the W2 screen? Your instructions refer to a Search option to import W2s.

Unfortunately, you cannot upload a pdf copy of your W-2 form to your TurboTax desktop program. You can key in the information on your W-2 form or download it if your employer is partnered with TurboTax to make it available for import.

You provided that option earlier. Not sure why functionality is being removed. How do I know if my employer has partnered with TT?

Separate question - TT would show previous year's numbers (in this case 2020) side by side when I would fill in the current year's return? Why don't I see that as a reference point?

Please see Partner's List for a list of employers that have partnered with TurboTax.

Only TurboTax Desktop shows last year's numbers side by side when filling out the current year's return.

Why does my total tax go up even if I have removed any applicable excess HSA contributions?

Your partner list is really small and not accurate. Eg. I could import from Capgemini, and that is not on your list. What is TT's plan to expand the list?

I see an amount of $600 on line 10. Where from the federal return is it coming from? The desktop software does not tell me that.

GA 500 Schedule 1, line 10 - "10. Interest on United States Obligations (See IT-511Tax Booklet )"

Did you have any savings bonds? Are there any entries in lines 2a or 2b on your 1040?

No savings bonds. I have interest on 2b of 1040. I paid excess soc. sec. tax and got $4840 credit on line 31 of 1040. How does that translate to $600 in line 10 of Sch. 1 of GA 500? Your back instructions have to improve.

@lali000

Look at the Georgia Income and Retirement Worksheets (Inc/Ret Wks) to see if the amount on Schedule 1 is being reported.

"How does that translate to $600 in line 10 of Sch. 1 of GA 500? " - I did not say that it did. Line 10 on GA Schedule 1 is for interest on US obligations, or perhaps you are referring to another line/form?

Yes, it is reported but it shows the same $600 without showing where it is coming from.

If I file an extension through TT desktop, do I still have to mail in 4868? Your website claims electronic filing of extension. Also, I presume when I decide to file my taxes later this year, I can still use the TT software that I have purchased.

The desktop edition only provides the Form 4868 to be printed and mailed to the IRS, not e-filed.

If you want to e-file the form 4868 go to this TurboTax website for Easy Extension - https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/

How do I pay taxes due using TT desktop, when I am filing for an extension?

So, I have to enter all my info. again on the online app. Why can't you carry over the info. when I log in to TT or allow filing on the desktop software??

No, you do not have to start tax return on the online app.  Just enter your personal information and the amount that you want to pay.

Or just use the desktop extension to print and mail the Form 4868.

Or go to this IRS payment website and select to pay an amount with the extension.  That automatically gives you the IRS extension - https://www.irs.gov/payments

Between January 1st and the original due date of your return, visit the main Direct Pay page and select the “Make a Payment” button. On the page that follows,

  • Select "Extension” as your “Reason for Payment.” (The "Apply Payment to..." field will then start with "4868," the IRS number for the extension request form)
  • Verify your identity and make a payment

If you complete this process successfully, your payment will be credited towards the tax year for which you are requesting a filing extension, and you will automatically receive the extension. You will not need to file a separate Form 4868, Extension of Time to File Your Tax Return. You can verify your extension by logging into your account

I'm stumped...don't know about this one.

My question still remains. You are charging a hefty price for a software, where you do not allow e-filing of extension and corresponding payment? When will that feature be available? Users will have to go to your website and enter 3-4 pages of information again before they can file an extension.

Since most of us on this forum are volunteers there is no way to answer your question.  That is a corporate decision and we have no way to know what their plans are for future releases of the software.
