I've used turbotax self employed 2016 version Would home and business be the same for self employed people?

Yes.  The Desktop Home & Business version is the same as online Self Employed version.   Actually All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  So you can even use a lower Desktop program.

But you can't install the 2018 Desktop program on Mac with OS 10.10.  Mac System Requirements https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899173-minimum-system-requirements-for-turbotax-mac-software
