I thought I had set up a direct debit to pay my Utah state taxes, but I don't see that my payment went through today. Is there a way to check if I set this up on TT?

The direct debit for my federal payment went through this morning, but there is nothing for my state payment, so this has me concerned that I might need to mail my payment to the state. I am fine with doing this. I just don't want to pay double if I have already set up a direct payment. I can't find anything in my tax return papers on on TurboTax that show me what I did back in January.

If you set up the payment for today, it depends on when Utah submits the payments for fulfillment.  You can call 801-297-2200 or taxmaster@utah.gov.  I would suggest sending an email to show proof that you attempted to find out if they are busy on the phone, then check for the payment later today.

Thank you. I am trying to contact them by phone right now. Is there a way to check if I set up a direct payment from my bank account on the TurboTax website itself or in my paperwork? I have searched everywhere on the site and on my tax return forms, but I can't find anything that indicates this -- neither for my federal payment, which did go through, nor my state payment. I compared my return from last year when I did a direct payment for the federal taxes but not for the state in the hope that I might see a difference, but I couldn't see anything that helped there either.

The first page of the PDF copy of your State Return should be Filing Instructions (same for your Federal return).  This page states how you set up your payment (or how you wanted your Refund) when you filed your return.

You may want to save a complete copy of your returns so you can review the Filing Instructions for both returns.

You know, that was actually something I checked. I printed a copy and saved a digital copy of my returns from each year, and there were always filing instructions from TurboTax. However, this year those filing instructions were not included at all--not for the federal or state taxes. I thought that was odd.

Interestingly, the instructions included in my return from last year specifically say to mail my federal-tax payment to the IRS using the 1040-V form, even though I definitely had set up a direct payment from my bank account. The direct payment for federal went through last year just fine, and it has gone through just fine in the many years I have used TurboTax, so I am not sure why the instructions say to do this.

I was able to get through by phone to the Utah State Tax Commission, and I thought I would post the results in case it might help others who have the same question.

This was the first year that I was able to arrange for a direct payment from my bank account for my Utah state taxes in the many years I have been using TurboTax. I don't think it was available at all in previous years. The representative with whom I spoke verified all my information first and then said that, since this was the first time that I have used my checking account with them for a direct payment, there may be as much as a ten-day delay for the funds actually to be taken from my account. This is evidently for verification purposes. However, she confirmed that their records show that the payment was indeed scheduled for today, so my payment will not be considered late.

Thank you again for your responses and for providing the contact information I needed.
