Ok ... so you installed and updated the program and then installed the state program and updated again?  Then you tried to open the .tax2020 file ?    If not where did you get stopped ?

are you trying to install the CD on the new computer?   Does it have a CD drive?

If you first installed from the CD it may not let you download it or install the CD on another computer.    There is a problem if you first installed the CD.  It doesn't connect you to an account you can find.  You have to call in and ask for a new download and a new License Code.

Did you originally install it from the CD on the first computer?  See my post above.   You need to call in and ask for the download now.

And why do you need to access your 2020 return?   Do you actually need to open it in the program or just view your return?   Did you save the pdf file last year?  Or just have the .tax2020 file?

You can convert a .tax file to a pdf using another company.  Or get a copy from the IRS.

I only have the .tax2020 file. It didn’t convert to pdf when I saved everything to the thumb drive before wiping the computer

The irs website says it’s 90 days out for them to send it. I need it to before then

Ok ... call TT support and have them push you a download.

And going forward ALWAYS save a PDF along with the .taxfile to a removable storage unit for safe keeping.

If you don't want to wait or call in to get the download,  you could try the TaxPrinter service to convert a .tax file to pdf at

http://www.taxprinter.com

They might be expensive and it is probably not safe to email tax returns back and forth.  They are not related to Turbo Tax.

Thanks but I’ll try your other suggestions first. Don’t really wanna float my tax stuff around. I appreciate the help though.
