I paid to file my daughters income taxes. The system won't let me file because of the Disaster Relief payments made to everyone. Should she mail returns?

I'm a 30 yr customer, who needs to hear from TT specialists. Can you call me?

The question about "disaster relief"  has nothing to do with receiving a stimulus check.   That question refers to taking a distribution from an IRA or 401k during covid-19.

@ rbrungard1

I wouldn't mail a paper return unless it's a last resort.  A paper return can delay processing of the return (and a refund, if applicable) for weeks to months.   And it relies on manual processing by an IRS data entry clerk, so the chance of input error at the IRS is higher.

What is the exact error message you are getting?

If you are using the term "Disaster Relief" correctly, a lot of folks are having trouble and asking questions in regard to a filing roadblock due to question about Disaster Relief payments (which are not the stimulus payments.)   I don't know the specific problem, but if there is a software issue, it may be corrected in the next couple weeks, and there's still plenty of time to file (or ask for an extension.)  For some folks, a disaster relief-related form is not yet ready in the software.

I can't tell from your question whether your daughter actually received Disaster Relief payment or not.  As

@ xmasbaby0

  said, these are not the economic impact payments (EIP "stimulus").    Or is it asking her if she had any Disaster Relief payment, and she didn't, but it won't let you respond correctly?

Some folks have reported they can't uncheck a box saying they received disaster relief distribution during one or more years 2018-2020.  There may be a workaround for some that I've seen others suggest in other threads to go back and find the original questions in the TurboTax interview and answer there, but I'm not familiar with it.  If you don't get additional suggestions here in this thread or similar ones in the forum, here's how to phone Customer Support:

@rbrungard1

I ran across another thread.   Is this the same problem you are encountering?

If so, see if the response by TurboTax @AamilD helps you any.
