I need to send form 8962 do I do it online and is there another fee involved

If you completed your tax return originally in TurboTax you can add this form online and should not be charged.

In order to complete the 8962 you will need to start as an amending return but that return will not be filed.

You may have received a letter from the IRS asking for Form 8962, which is related to the information on Form 1095-A.

These steps enter your Form 1095-A in TurboTax as an amended return and creates Form 8962 for you to print and mail to the IRS.

Only the Form 8962 the IRS requested is sent in, do not send the entire amended return.

1) To open your 2015 return, go to https://turbotax.intuit.com and sign in.

2) On the Sign In screen, enter your User ID and Password and click Sign In.

3) On the Welcome home screen, select Taxes.

4) On the Tax Timeline screen, click on Amend (change) return.

5) On the Are you sure you’d like to amend your return? screen, click the Amend (change) return button.

6) On the next screen, click Amend/Change my return button.

Begin Amending Your Return

1) On the We’ll Help you change (amend) your return screen, click Continue.

2) On the Have You Already Filed This Return? screen, indicate Yes, I need to amend a return I already filed. Also Indicate I need to amend my 2015 return, then click Continue.

3) On the What do you need to change on your return screen, scroll down to Health Insurance Info and click Update.

4) Answer the question on the Did you have health insurance coverage in 2015? screen, then click Continue.

5) Continue to answer Health Insurance questions which will include entering the information from your Form 1095-A.

6) The That’s all we need to continue your 2015 coverage screen will be the last Health Insurance screen. Click Done with Health.

7) You are back to the Do you need to change anything else? screen. Scroll all the way down and click Done.

😎 On the Do you still receive your mail at this address screen, answer the question and click Continue.

9) On the Why did you need to amend your return? screen, enter "Responding to IRS letter" and click Continue.

10) On the Let’s review and get ready to file screen, click Continue and complete all final review questions, if any

11) If you see a Looks like you haven’t entered your 1095-A yet screen, just click Continue.

12) After you have completed your final review, click Continue.

Print and Mail Form 8962 to the IRS

13) You are now ready to print your return to file.

On the You’re Done! Print and Mail Your Returns, click Print and Save Return.

14) On the print dialog screen, select Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit and then click the Print icon.

NOTE: if you don’t see the list of forms on the side of the screen, just click Print. All of the instructions and forms will print. Find the paper copy of your Form 8962.

15) On the Print dialog screen, check the Current Page button and then click on the Print button to print Form 8962.

16) Mail a copy of your Form 1095-A along with Form 8962 to the IRS address indicated in your IRS letter.

The option to amend is not available. I saw that maybe an option to download and amend however the link doesn't work to get to the proper software. How can I get the form completed if I can't even access the link or add the form?

Instead of choosing the amend option use the "add a state" option.  Follow these steps.

 

  • Log into your return.
  • Select that you want to Add a state - this lets you into the program without the amend process starting.
  • In the top right corner, locate the Magnifying glass/Search.  
  • enter the exact words "1095a."
  • Select the first entry Jump to 1095a.
  • Fill in the 1095a information.
  • Print and mail the form 8962.

The IRS may adjust your refund once they receive your form 8962.

I received a letter from the IRS that I need to send a copy of my 1095-A with form 8962. for some reason when I did my taxes that form didn't come up for me to fill out. Not sure how to do on my own or if I can amend with you and resubmit?

The letter you received from the IRS tells you how to submit the required forms.  You do NOT amend the 2019 tax return.

Where is the option to print after completed?

If you need to fill out Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit after you have filed your return, you will need to enter Form 1095-A. You can enter 1095-A and produce Form 8962 by following these instructions.

 

  1.  Sign In to Turbo Tax
  2.  Click Tax Home, in the upper left. Scroll down to Your Returns and Documents 
  3.  If you do not see options under that heading, look to the right and click on Show
  4.  Make sure the correct year is underlined in blue
  5.  Select Amend (change) return and then Amend Using Turbo Tax Online
  6.  Do not click continue on the “We’ll help you change (amend) your return” screen. Simply go to the left menu and
  7. Click on the Federal and then
  8. Click on Deduction and Credits in the upper portion of the page.
  9. Scroll down and click on Medical, Show More.
  10. Choose Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A) by clicking on Start or  Revisit
  11. Enter your 1095-A form and generate an 8962 form.
  12. Click through the ACA section
  13. Select Tax Tools, on the left menu
  14. Select the Print Center
  15.  Print, save, or preview this year’s return and click in the box to select federal returns
  16. Click on View or Print Forms to print the forms you need
  17. You can view the forms from here and select just to print the pages with
  18.  Form 8962 and Form 1040 (if needed)

Has anyone who needed to send an 8962 form to the IRS for the 2019 taxes received their refund back yet? If so how long did it take to get it after you sent the form to the IRS?

I'm still waiting. I faxed mine in. They said it's an additional 6 to 8 weeks after they receive it to get your return. Turbotax really messed up on their software this year cause alot of people had the same issue. Also for the people who paid with they're returns, they're trying to collect that payment now even though it's their fault all of this is happening

You have to send a completed form 8962 and a copy or you for 1095-A
