In order to file your tax return, you will need last year's AGI or self-select pin (5 digit pin). Here is an IRS article that will provide instructions.

why is turbo tax requesting both an AGI and a 5 digit pin before it will let me proceed? And once I enter the information, the IRS disapproves my filing stating the pin is incorrect

You may need to switch to a new browser. Make sure your return is saved in your TurboTax account and then sign out. Clear the cache and delete the cookies on your computer, open a new browser, sign back into your account and try again.

The IRS has discontinued the e-filing PIN option. To verify your identity for e-filing, you’ll need to use last year’s adjusted gross income (AGI). The e-filing PIN isn’t the same thing as the Self Select PIN or the IP PIN. Please click What happened to the e-filing PIN? to learn more.

Are you aware that the PIN is now updated to a 6 digits not 5 digit? I have been trying really hard to file a bug report and there is absolutely no live chat to even report this bug.

Your software is currently only allowing 5 digits, and your bug has caused my e file to be rejected.

A 6 digit Identity Protection PIN is only issued by the IRS.  It is not entered in the File section of the program as a electronic signature PIN which is 5 digits and is a self-selected PIN.

To enter a 6 digit IP PIN

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Other Tax Situations
  • Scroll down to Other Return Info
  • On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

Or enter ip pin in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ip pin
