I messed up on my first name and did not put my correct legal name. Is this a problem? My legal name is Patricia and I put patty on all forms.

For advice on what to expect if you entered the wrong information on your return, visit: https://taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/get-help/i-made-a-mistake-on-my-taxes?taxissue=335&_ga=1.84638173.557596328.1462364085

If you have already e-filed your tax return *AND* it has been accepted by the IRS, then you're fine. Otherwise, if it's rejected then you can just change it.

Now I don't know about the first name, but I do know that the IRS Computers only look at the first four letters of the last name to confirm it's the right name for the SSN entered for that taxpayer or dependent on the tax return.
