I keep getting "needs review" and can't seem to clear it. All boxes are filled correctly.

Click on Review and it will tell you what forms you are missing. Some forms may not be available yet so you cannot file.  The IRS has to finalize a number of forms and then approve the finalized forms in the TurboTax software.  The IRS will not be processing returns until February 12th at the earliest.

Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ on the availability of IRS forms. Federal Individual Form Availability Federal Forms.

If you checked "I have no information in the other boxes" and imported a form with zero's, it may loop to "Needs Review." You may need to delete all the zero's and the "Needs Review" should go away. TurboTax counts zero's as content so this could cause this issue.

I had to stop doing my return. I keep getting "needs review" over and over, (1099-NEC, 1099-INT, etc.) and no amount appears, the refund/tax doesn't appear at all, something seems to  be wrong.

Can I get some help?? I thought these issues were fixed...

If this is referring to Form 1099-NEC, here is update:

This issue has been resolved.  Please click on the following link:

Why am I not able to link my 1099-NEC

One of the most common reasons you’d receive tax form 1099-NEC (Form 1099-MISC in prior years) is if you're self-employed or did work as an independent contractor during the previous year. The IRS refers to this as “nonemployee compensation.”

  • In most circumstances, your clients are required to issue Form 1099-NEC when they pay you $600 or more in any year.
  • As a self-employed person, you're required to report your self-employment income if the amount you receive from all sources totals $400 or more.

Your self-employment net profit will show on your Schedule 1 line 3 and line 8 of your Form 1040.

If this is referring to a Form 1099-DIV, read here:

This issue has been fixed.  Make sure you update the program.  Click here:

1099-DIV needs review

A common reason for receiving a 1099-DIV form is because some of the stocks you own pay dividends, or a mutual fund you invest in made a capital gains distribution to you during the year. It is possible that you might also receive US government related funds that are tax exempt.  You won’t file the 1099-DIV with the Internal Revenue Service, but you will need the information it reports when preparing your tax return.

For more information, click here: 1099-DIV

Same thing was happening to me. I deleted the entry and manually entered my W2 info and the "needs review" went away.

to resolve this problem i had to enter a value in Box 14 Category of Benefit. Never had to do that previously.

I have the same issue.  The "needs review" buttons are red color and don't work when I click them.

Did you find an answer?  Thanks

How did you get to the form to manually enter data. I can't find the link.

Same here. Its annoying the living hell out of me. I am up against the deadline and literally everything says how easy this all is and its a confusing mess! Everything keeps telling me I need more after it just said how easy it is and don't need anything else. This is going to be my last time with TT if I don't get some legit help.

Isn't this the issue at hand? You say "If you can be more specific" - we don't know what it wants! I am stuck on the first W-2, all it was was one W-2 from my wife's company and I put it in correctly yet it continues to say "Needs review" - I am losing my mind.

Don't panic.  If you're using TurboTax Online, and have been clicking around in the program, try closing TurboTax, clear your Cache and Cookies and see if the 'Needs Review' is gone.

It doesn't mean your W-2 entry is wrong; this could happen anywhere in the program.  Remember the 'Needs Review' at the Income Topics page is only a 'display error'; it doesn't mean your tax return is wrong.

Go to Tax Tools > Tools in the left-side menu, then click on 'View Tax Summary' on the pop-up screen.  Back at the left-side menu, choose 'View My 1040' to look at your actual Form 1040 if you want to check.

Make sure that the address of the financial institution that provided the 1099 is filled in completely. Sometimes, when you upload a 1099 pdf, the autofill doesn't fill in everything completely.

Some things just won't "clear." I live in a state with no income tax yet TurboTax asks repeatedly, year after year, if now is a good time to prepare my state income return. This happens even after the software tells me I don't have to file one. I just ignore it.

I found that my window was only showing part of the form and I had to the scroll to the bottom of the screen to move the window slide bar to the right. Turns out there were edit and delete icons to the far right that were not coming up in the native window size.
