Below are examples of the reason for receiving more than one 1095-A Form

  • You may receive more than one Form 1095-A if members of your household were not all enrolled in the same health plan, you updated your family information during the year, you switched plans during the year, or you had family members enrolled in different states.
  • If you received more than one Form 1095-A – from the same Marketplace – that reports coverage for different months, you will enter the information for the corresponding month on Form 8962, lines 12 through 23. You will find this information in Part III of the Form 1095-A. If you received more than one Form 1095-A that reports coverage for the same month, please see the instructions for Form 8962 for more information.

Which policy number do I enter if I have two 1095-A forms? Do I enter the policy number that I was enrolled with the longest last year?

The problem is that Turbo Tax will not accept multiple 1095-A forms with the same marketplace ID (it asks for the last 15 digits/characters). If you try to combine the data from the different 1095-A forms to cover the entire year (as Form 8962 does), TurboTax will NOT fill out the monthly calculations on Form 8962.  To get TurboTax to fill out the monthly details, I entered 14 digits as the marketplace ID for one of my 1095-A forms. It would have been helpful if Turbo Tax stated that this was an option.

I found all this out after I e-filed but then got a letter from the IRS requesting a completed Form 8962 be mailed in; my refund is now delayed 6-8 weeks.

""you had family members enrolled in different states"

Yes.  And what is the solution to entering multiple 1095-a forms from different states?

To clarify, are the family members you share your policy with also your dependents?

I found the solution.  When you finish the first 1095-A, TT will ask if you have additional ones to enter.

How did you get past the review that wants you to delete zeros for the months that are on the 2nd 1095-A

If you didn't have the second Marketplace insurance all year, you can leave column A blank for the months you didn't have it.  Then columns B & C will not be an issue.

If you have an amount in column A, then the amount in column B can't be zero. You must enter the Second Lowest Cost Silver Plan (SLCSP). The SLCSP is the second-lowest priced health insurance plan in the Silver category that was available when you applied for insurance at Healthcare Marketplace.

You can use the Health coverage tax tool to figure to get the SLCSP if it is not on your Form 1095-A.

The amount in column C can be zero if you didn't take a monthly subsidy to help pay for your health insurance premiums.

  • If you did get a monthly subsidy to help pay for your health insurance premiums, enter the monthly amount in column C.

See this article for more information about the Premium Tax Credit.

TurboTax will automatically fill out Form 8962 once you enter your Form 1095-A.

Take the zeroes out and leave the fields blank.  It has zeros on the form but they do not work on TurboTax.
