You'll be able to do this electronically.

See the TurboTax Help articles How do I amend my federal tax return for this year? and  How do I amend Married Filing Separately returns to Married Filing Jointly? for guidance.

  • The only option available to me is to file by mail. I’m then taken to the “check this entry” page and I’m not able to fix the error. Previously, I accidentally opted out of sharing information with turbo tax which may cause me to not be able to efile the amended return. Below is the screen that I’m unable to modify. How can I be able to efile the amended return?

What tax year are you amending?  If 2022 you will have to print, sign and mail the form 1040X.

Your 2023 federal Form 1040-X amended return is eligible for electronic filing if the original return was successfully e-filed using TurboTax. However, there is a chance your return cannot be electronically filed. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.

If amending for tax years 2022 and prior, you need to print and mail your amended return. Follow these instructions to amend a prior-year return.

Note: For amendments prior to tax year 2021, you must mail a paper return. While the Internal Revenue Service and your state may accept e-filed amended returns, TurboTax may still have you mail a paper return. This includes amended California returns.

Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.

I’m trying to amend 2023 returns electronically. I was able to successfully file electronically 2023 returns with Turbo Tax and unable to electronically file an amendment for 2023.

The first sentence in your image says if you are changing filing status you won't be able to e-file. The IRS requires you to paper file an amendment if you are changing filing status.
