I filed last night once the 8915f form was available. It seems it was rejected because of the fema number input being invalid. How can I fix this please?

I followed suggestions to uncheck box for Covid related so I can reach the fema drop down menu but the field is already blank. Is it possible that TurboTax is mistakenly entering an invalid code for Covid that we are checking the box for and if so can it please get corrected. Thank you.

It worked for me now. I had to make sure to delete both forms "Form 8915-F", "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and "1099-R Summary" and then went through the steps again and now accepted by IRS. I made sure to do the below steps to be safe but not sure if necessary.

  1. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  2. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  3. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Same error.  This is getting a bit out of hand.

Getting the same error. Turbotax is putting "Coronavirus" in 8915-F line C when it should be left blank.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue and delete the line C entry (if you only had the Covid Distribution):

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

Those steps did not work for me. Has this worked for anyone else?

I'm not able to view my return when I go to resubmit. I'm getting the following error when I try.

{"sessionEvt":{"evt":"redirect","data":{"component":"TaxSessionServiceError","clearCookies":true,"url":"/turbotax/wtt_err.htm?Error=122"}}}

Thoughts on what I can do?  Otherwise I'm blindly submitting the return and unsure if the "C" section has been removed.  Thanks!

This did not work for me either. "Coronavirus -related" continues to show up in Line C.

I deleted everything disaster relief related and redid that portion.  I just resubmitted and downloaded the final as I was not able to review it before submitting.  The final did not show anything where the disaster code was showing 2020 COVID-19, so fingers crossed it gets accepted this time.

This did not work for me.  Neither did deleting the forms and readding.  The COVID 19 is still on line C.

Hi everyone. Here is what worked for me...

1. Start that section again and UNCHECK the coronavirus box. Then on the next screen I picked a random disaster and then went through the rest of the questions.

2. Go back to the beginning and go through the questions again. Leave the coronavirus box unchecked... but instead of picking a random disaster, choose the very top option in the dropdown list which is blank. This will delete the code TurboTax is putting on Line C.

3. Go back to the beginning and go through the questions again but this time check the coronavirus box.

I was able to submit to the IRS after doing this. I got an email shortly after that it was accepted.

Have you followed the suggestion by @tmas74 here? @demrevis

Instrlead of deleting the forms, I opened the 8915 forms and removed “n/a” from the FEMA number field (which is populated when you check the Covid box).

I re-submitted the federal return and it was accepted.

How do you delete everything disaster related and start over? The suggestions on this site didn't work for me and the form still shows "coronavirus" on Line C

@Ggq

solution posted elsewhere:

You have to delete the 2020 Qualified Distribution Worksheet. Then go back through income and revisit the retirement section.

At the end of TurboTax before you file, press review file. any errors will come up and the covid-19 Fema code was the one I would ALWAYS get as well...FRUSTRATING!!!!!. Anyway, the simple solution is to just put the word none or nothing, either works. I was skeptical, but it worked for me.
