You can get an extension:
You must have a TurboTax account
- Click on the website Free federal tax extension is now available
- Select [File Now]
- Log into your account
- Your screen will show Get started on your federal extension
- Follow the interview
Turbo Tax does not have a copy of your W-2, but there are ways to obtain it again.
Here are the steps to take to get your W-2.
- You can try to import it on TurboTax. (See the process below).
- Contact your employer Contact your employer to see if the W-2 has ben sent, and request a duplicate.
- Go online, many employers have an online service to provide document like W-2's.
- Contact the IRS: If you could not get it from your employer you can contact the IRS.
- You can call toll-free at 1-800-829-1040 or contact a Taxpayer Assistance Center Local IRS Office.
- You can request a transcript
- You must provide your
- name,
- address, city and state (including zip code),
- Social Security Number,
- phone number,
- Employer’s name,
- address, city and state (including zip code), and
- employer's phone number
To import from TurboTax Online
- Sign into TurboTax.
- On the left sidebar Select Tax Tools
- On the drop-down select Tools
- There will be 4 green boxes
- Select Topics Search
- Type W-2
- Select Work on my W-2 and Continue.
- If you've already entered a W-2 or need to add another one, select Add another W-2.
- Enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box b on your W-2.
- If your W-2 can be imported, you'll come to the Great news! We can automatically import your W-2 info screen. Answer the questions to complete your import.
- If TurboTax doesn't recognize your EIN you can use the TurboTax mobile app to snap a photo of your W-2, upload it from your computer, or fill it in yourself. As an alternative you can go to the main menu.
