I asked my question, but don't know where to search for the response. I don't know why I am unable to use my friends referral link. this is my 1st time using turbotax

I clicked his link. I signed in. (I had previously started an application, but never purchased a return yet). Do I have to delete my account and start a new one?

If you asked a question in this forum, and can't find it again, try entering "TurboTax" and then the text of your question in a Google search. This should produce the result you are looking for.

You may also attempt to open the link using an incognito or private browser tab.
