@eileenalm

Yeah...that's apparently a setting on your Windows 11 that only allows you to run programs download from the Microsoft store.

A number of people had that problem the last couple years, who had their OS set to Windows 10S instead of just Windows 10.  It's just a setting, not a whole different OS.

Try the solution directions noted here....should be similar for Windows 11:

Solved: I downloaded Turbotax but Windows 10 won't install. Says its not Microsoft-verified (intuit.com)

Thanks   would you know of changing this setting will affect security and/or performance?

No idea.....Few of us use that setting.  I suspect it's only necessary for folks who might be tempted to install strange/questionable apps/programs.

You could just change it to install your TurboTax.

Start TurboTax and make sure it's running properly...save a test file..

......then shut down and reboot yoru computer.

Then Reset the OS setting to the 11S.......then see if TurboTax still works.

The problem you might have with this is that with the 11S turned back on, you may not be able to download the weekly updates which are absolutely necessary to properly run Turbotax.

Might annoyingly block installation of thing like Adobe Reader....or  any other program you used with Windows 10 and need to reinstall in yoru new Windows 11 (unless they are already in there)

Thanks.  Once you switch from S mode, you cannot go back to S mode.    This is more of a Microsoft grievance, than a turbo tax.   Thanks for your reply.

I'm running Microsoft 365 Personal use NOT IN SAFE MODE.  When I downloaded TurboTax (from Sams)  error popped:  'not a trusted app from MS Store'.  Now the zip file sits on my desktop with no obvious way to open & run it. Have scoured through forums.  HELP PLEASE

@alisamedia

Microsof 365 is immaterial to the issue:

BUT...Double check:

1) Go to your Windows "Settings" screen

2) Click on "System"

3) Then scroll down to "About"

4) Look at the Windows Specifications.....See what edition you are using...if it says "S Mode"

5) If it indicates "S Mode" then you'll have to get out of that...but it's one way, you can't get back.

Try this:

Shut down/Reboot your computer.

Wait 10 min or so for everything to start up.

Then Rt-click on the installation .exe file, and select "Run As Administrator"

See what happens.

(it's not  a zip file.....the installation file is a .exe file)

Tried that; left laptop off a while.  No change whatsoever.  When I attempt to open, the 'spinning wheel' spins then stops & nothing more.  Any other Ideas please.
