Hi!
I am a teacher, and my employer gave me a w2. However, I also have an independent job as a nanny. It is through a company, but I baby sit for different people, so I don't get a 1099. I am well aware that I need to report this income because it is more than $600. My question is, how do I report both a W2 and this independent income?
I am also filing jointly with my husband, who has two W2s. Note sure if that also matters. Thanks!
You have some self-employment income so you will need to use the online Self-Employed software---or any version of the CD/download. You need to pay self-employment tax for the babysitting income---you pay your own Social Security and Medicare, and possibly some federal/state tax since nothing was withheld. If you had any expenses when you worked as a nanny you can enter them on a Schedule C.
All of your combined income---the W-2's for both of you and the self-employment income----goes on the same joint tax return.

Thank you for your reply. But my question is, how do I add both the w2 and the miscellaneous income?
will the self- employed software allow me to do both? What about filing joint with my husband? Will I be able to do all of that? TIA!
There are different spots in the software to add W-2's and the self-employment income. All of it can go on the same tax return. When you file a joint return, you have spots for each name on the income screens. The screen for W-2's will have spots for your spouse and for you. After you enter the first W-2 you will just need to click Add W-2 and enter the other ones, being careful to enter them under the right name. And for the self-employment income you will enter that under your name in a different part of the software. When you actually get the software it will be more apparent to you where you have to enter it.
Q. Will I be able to do all of that?
A. Yes. The software guides you to enter the information.

Who pays you, the company or the individuals? If the company, have they actually told you that you won't get a 1099? That would be unusual. You may need to wait for a 1099-NEC. Companies have until Jan. 31 to send these out.
