I am part CA, part VA while my spouse is a resident in CA for 2021. Following the previous posting and answers.
1). I am filing Fed and CA jointly using nonsident form for CA using a 1st Turbo file.
2). Then I am filing separately for VA with the mock federal return using a 2nd Turbo file.
Since I have both VA downloaded and CA purchased after installed the Turbo CD. In the 1st turbo file, when I get to VA, it says I need to change filing status to separate. So I went to review next. After "Let's make sure your taxes are correct", the next screen has a button to delete my VA return. After I clicked on that button, instead of confirming with a "yes", the next screen says: If you won't be completing your VA return, we recommend you remove the return from your text file. To move your Virginia return, click on the View menu and select Forms. Then go to the File menu and select Remove State Return.
I can't seem to follow the instruction. I click on top left side "Forms" while I am on EasyStep screen. There is no File menu there. I only see File tab on the EasyStep screen, which is for final filing. What did I do wrong?
Or can just e-file Fed and State only in the 1st Turbo file, without e-filing the VA. Would it let me do that while the VA return was not complete?
