@finfin11

  1. Sign in to TurboTax Online and open your return by clicking the orange Take me to my return button.
  2. Select the My Account dropdown menu located in the top right of your screen (see attached my account)
  3. Select Clear & Start Over (see attached clear and start over)

You can restart you return as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.

As long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered, you can erase your return and start from scratch in TurboTax Online.

  1. Sign in and select a topic to continue your return.
  2. On the next screen, from the left-side menu, select Tax Tools, and then Clear & Start Over (select the menu icon in the upper-left corner if you don't see this menu).
  3. Answer Yes in the pop-up to confirm.

I might not necessarily need to restart but I would like to uncheck a box. I cannot start over apparently according to this thread because I just paid and that is the annoying part, you can only view the documents after you paid but then you cannot change anything anymore. Kind of weird service...

In form 1116 - I would like to uncheck the check box Paid or Accrued. How can I do this?

Just FYI, I noticed this only after payment and viewing the documents to be filed. I am trying to understand where I provided the wrong answer on one of the questions...

In the search box, type Form 1116 and click the link that says "Jump to..."

This should take you back to the form to correct what you need to adjust and then you can complete the return as needed.

I don't get the "Jump to..."-section.

Please see the attached screenshot.

As I mentioned, I want to remove this check mark next to Paid.

Try entering foreign tax paid in the search box, instead. This will get you to an overview to select whether you wanted the itemized deduction or credit.

However, to unselect that there were foreign taxes paid, please return to the original entry. See below for instructions to return to various entries:

  • Dividends:
    • In the search box, enter 1099div and select the Jump to link in the search results.
    • If an amount was reported on Box 7, foreign tax paid, then the foreign tax paid box checked.
  • Interest:
    • In the search box, enter 1099int and select the Jump to link in the search results.
    • If an amount was reported on Box 6, foreign tax paid, then the foreign tax paid box checked.
  • Schedule K-1:
    • An amount may be carrying from Schedule K-1 regarding foreign income taxes paid.
  • Foreign Earned Income:
    • In the search box, enter foreign earned income and select the Jump to link in the search results.

Unfortunately, whatever I try, I don't get the jump to for any topic.

Is that possibly because I already paid for submission?

In addition,

I have not entered any 1099-DIV/INT box 6 or box 7.

As far as I know, I have not entered any K1.

And also no foreign income.

But I do believe that the cause might be due to 1099-INT , although box 6 is empty.

Thank you for your support.

To troubleshoot first, delete your 1099-INT to see if that clears the error. If this doesn't, Please use this link to  Contact Us to have a live expert to try to pinpoint your issue. In any case, reenter the 1099-INT to report the income.

No, you won't receive a refund until after you complete and e-file  your taxes.

You are correct that you can't clear and start over if you paid your fees. Even if you have paid you fees, you can still edit your return as long as you have not submitted it yet.
