See this TurboTax support FAQ for transferring the 2018 tax data to the 2019 online tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-turbotax-online/01/25953

You answered my question...thanks...but it still doesn't work.  I even found my 2018 with the .tax2018 ending and that didn't pull in all of past years info which includes depreciation.  It didn't even pull in 2018 correctly.

I'm not sure what else to do.  I may need to just return Turbo Tax and use something else ...!

I've never had this problem before. It's always worked perfectly!  I've already started filling in the history on the supporting document forms from the 2018 form, but that doesn't filter into the work sheet for comparisons.

If you have any advice, I'd appreciate it.

It depends.

Is it possible there is another user ID linked to your email that you used for 2018?

Why didn't my information transfer over from last year

Thanks for replying! I'm not doing this on line.  I'm pulling from my saved copy from last year.  It pulls partial information but not all of it.

To get the most data transferred in, you will want to use the .tax2018 file you have saved.    TurboTax for Windows personal CD/Download desktop software will transfer last year's tax data file (.tax2018 file) or PDF from the 2018 TurboTax desktop or online software.

We'll transfer over 100 fields to help you get a head start on your return, including:

  • Names and other personal info
  • Social Security numbers
  • Addresses
  • Employer and business info
  • Income forms such as W-2s and 1099s
  • Credits and deductions
  • Refunds and tax owed amounts
  • Capital losses
  • Disallowed deductions
  • Credits carried over to subsequent years
  • Schedule TurboTax information
  • E-file signatures if you successfully e-filed last year

Be aware that TurboTax does not transfer information that requires complex calculations, like depreciation.

Transferring from TurboTax for Windows, H&R Block, or TaxACT  -  - use these instructions

If you used the Desktop program last year, see if you have another .tax2018 file on your computer.

Or maybe last year you marked the Schedule C as FINAL in Turbo Tax?

Here's an idea.  Do you still have 2018 installed?  Try opening 2018 program and see if you can get your 2018 return to show up in it.  Go to FILE - OPEN.  And see if your schedule C is in it and if it's marked as finally disposed.  Or any Assets were disposed or sold.

Then save it again with a name and place you can find.  Go to File - Save As.  Then start a new 2019 return and transfer from the 2018 file.

Make sure you're signing in with the same user ID that you used last year.

Why didn't last year's tax return transfer over in TurboTax Online?
