All you need to enter is the bank name or who paid you and put the amount in box 1.

Enter interest received like a 1099-Int under

Federal Taxes tab (Personal for Home & Business)

Wages & Income

Interest and Dividends

Interest on 1099INT - Click the Start or Update button

Report the interest you received that wasn't reported on a 1099-INT the same way you would if you had a 1099-INT.  When the program asks for the Federal Identification Number (FEIN), leave it blank.  That's it.

I left the FEIN blank and continued, but then this item was labeled "needs review". Is it ok to leave it like that?

When you enter Interest from a 1099-INT, you are only asked to enter the bank name, no FEIN.  Are you sure you are entering this in the correct place?

I'm following the instruction from @DavidD66  - "When the program asks for the Federal Identification Number (FEIN), leave it blank. " But then this income item was labeled "needs review".

@CatinaT1 I think I'm in the correct place but let me know if I'm not:

Federal taxes -> Wages & income -> interest and dividends -> visit all -> Add investments -> skip import-> select "interest" from the 5 boxes, continue

Then there are blanks for FEIN, Received from, Box 1, and Box 3. I have seen several members reporting the same issue of having to enter FEIN when doing it manually.

I don't have a 1099-INT but I still need to report interest. Please advise what to do with TurboTax. Thanks.

Where did this interest come from?

This is an important question; it may affect the posting of the information.

"When the program asks for the Federal Identification Number (FEIN), leave it blank. " But then this income item was labeled "needs review".

  • I do not get that screen.
  • Enter 99-999999

I think I'm in the correct place but let me know if I'm not:

If your in TurboTax Online.

  1. Federal taxes
  2. Wages & income
  3. Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto) [Add/Edit]
  4. Your current postings will appear
  5. [+ Add investment] or click an existing posting

Then there are blanks for FEIN, Received from, Box 1, and Box 3. I have seen several members reporting the same issue of having to enter FEIN when doing it manually.

  • For FEIN (not on my screen) enter 99-999999
  • Box 1 - amount of total interest
  • Box 3 - Probably -0-

I don't have a 1099-INT but I still need to report interest. Please advise what to do with TurboTax.

  • The IRS will accept the information even if you do not have a 1099-INT

It does ask for the FEIN when you select to manually enter interest income though, and flags it as "needs review" if you leave it blank.

The needs review message won't prevent e-file.   @kk19
