How do I deal with a hung instance of Turbotax Deluxe? I hit Save, and it's now shown the spinning "Saving return" icon for 15 minutes.

Are you using TurboTax Online? If so, please try logging completely out of the TurboTax website, then clear your browser's cache and delete cookies. A full or corrupted cache can keep TurboTax from functioning properly. If that doesn't work, try a different browser.

No, this is the Windows application; from Help/About:

When the busy icon is running, I can't interact with turbotax with the mouse or keyboard. But I did find a work-around; I think the problem is that the busy icon is running as a separate process:

  • Minimize turbotax
  • This leaves the busy icon still visible on screen
  • Un-minimize turbotax
  • This leaves the busy icon running behind turbotax, but I can then use the mouse and keyboard to drive turbotax
  • Repeat any time that a busy indicator appears (which is frequently)

I checked that, after saving my return, the file had been fully written even though the "Saving return" icon was still running.
