How can we e-file with turbo tax but pay directly to the IRS so I can use multiple accounts to pay the IRS and State?

When you e-file, just use the option to pay by check when asked by the program how you want to pay the taxes owed.

You can pay your balance due to the IRS with a check or money order or you can pay directly through the IRS Website here: https://www.irs.gov/payments.

If you also owe State Taxes, please click here and choose your particular State: State Tax Department Contact Info.

Yes, the answer helps.  We just need more info about how we use turbo tax to start the process.  We owe both federal and school tax. We have set up an “online payment agreement” with the IRS so we can make installments for federal. We‘ve completed taxes on turbotax and are ready to file.  we think we need to submit “pay by check” during the filing process so turbo tax generates a payment voucher.  then we ignore and make the credit/debit card or check payments to the IRS online.  So there are really 2 questions:
1) do we start the process on turbo tax by selecting “e-file”?  then pay by check for federal?
2) can we continue and pay the school tax on turbo tax.

I owe the IRS $10,000 - I plan to put this on 2 credit cards with a max limit of $4000 and pay the rest in some other way - either by mail or direct debit from bank account .

When looking at the pay1040 website, it says we are allowed only 2 payments per year. Does this mean the total balance has to be on the 2 credit cards I plan to use ?

No. But you can make two payments with one or more credit cards, and then pay the remaining balance via direct debit (not wire transfer) from a bank account if you want to do that.

Thank you! The information on the TurboTax website is inaccurate and does not explain this at all.
