You can no longer file an extension for the 2022 tax year.
you can no longer extend 2022. a timely extension had to be filed by 4/18/2023. It expired on 10/15/2023. In addition, any taxes owed had to be paid by 4/18/2023. If you're due a refund there is no penalty for late filing. you could be penalized if you made estimated tax payments or extension payment late.
It is no longer possible to file an extension for your 2022 taxes. If you are covered by an automatic extension due to a federally declared disaster, there is no special form to file for that benefit but you should file your return as soon as possible to limit penalties and interest for late payment if you owe any balance. The deadline for returns covered by those disasters is February 15, 2024. A list of those covered disasters and more information about them can be found HERE.
If you need to file an extension for tax year 2023, it is too early to do that. The option to file an extension will become available in the TurboTax software in March, or through our "easy extension" application.

You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.
