Hello, My state tax return keeps stating that I'm not eligible for electronic filing because I received a negative amount on schedule D. Has anyone else had this happen?

You can check your Schedule D entries in TurboTax to make sure they are correct as follows:

  1. Click on the search icon in the upper right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type "schedule d" in the search bar
  3. Click on the link "Jump to schedule d"
  4. This will take you to the TurboTax entry screens to review your entries

You can also review your Schedule D, if you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can do as follows:

  1. Click on "Forms" in the top right corner of your TurboTax screen to switch to "Forms Mode"
  2. In your left panel look for your Schedule D and click on it to review your Form
  3. You can also review Form 8949 to make sure that looks accurate

If you are using TurboTax Online you can preview your return to view Form 8949 and Schedule D to check for accuracy as follows:

  1. Go to "Tax Tools" in your left panel,
  2. Select "Tools" and then
  3. Select "View Tax Summary" and
  4. Select "Preview Form 1040"

Returns can't be e-filed if they:

Many nonresident and part-year state returns cannot be e-filed either, so we'll let you know if it must be paper-filed.
