Meet the qualifications and it is free.

if you do not try elsewhere

You are posting your question from online Deluxe Live, which is a paid version that includes live tax expert help.   What are you trying to do?  Are you trying to remove the "Live" expert help and use the do-it-yourself Deluxe without expert help?   Have you used any of the expert's help yet?

Or are you trying to downgrade all the way down to the Free Edition?

No, you can't just remove Deluxe and file your return.

If you just want to remove the Live assistance, you can as long as you haven't used it yet. Follow this link for instructions.

If you want to clear and start over:

  1. Open your return in TurboTax.
  2. On the left-side menu, select Tax Tools, then Clear and Start Over.
  3. You'll be asked if you are sure, answer Yes. and all of the information you entered so far will be deleted.

to avoid unexpected fees, start over.

After you remove the LIVE service,  you might be able to go back to Free without needing to start over.  If you started your tax return in TurboTax Free Edition (Form 1040 with limited credits; roughly 37% of taxpayers qualify), you won't need to clear and start over. You can select Switch to Free Edition instead.

To go back to a lower version or the Free Edition you can try to clear and start over if you haven't paid or registered

In the regular Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

Or try the IRS Free File program

You have to clear and start over.  When you start over you will get a screen that gives you the option of Deluxe, Deluxe Live or Deluxe Assisted.  Beneath those options there is a small hard to see line that says more TurboTax products.  Click that link and it will take you to a screen where you can pick Free Edition.  Make sure when you do your taxes over that you do not click on Deluxe unless you really need it.  The way it is set up this year makes it difficult to find the other products, so I am glad you asked.
